If we're going to meet the shortfall we're going to have to avoid customs checks one way to do that would be to lower regulations.

dbc, you've got Australia, New Zealand and probably Canada and South Africa just waiting to pile in the food. We would love it. It would make a bonanza for our farmers and meat industry.

Yes and despite it coming from the other side of the world,it will be cheaper, without the big mark up for French farmers,a win win for all except the frogs who will probably riot, but that's the EUs problem.

You know this, and I know this, most of your country knows this, sadly, Mrs May does not know this and won't be told.

For what it's worth when I voted to join the Common Market as it was then. I did not realise we would be kicking the Commonwealth in the arse. Now is the time to make amends.:emoticon-0148-yes:

Yes but if you change the tariff for one country for a commodity, then you have to change that for all countries.

And we currently enjoy tariff free access to NZ lamb thanks to their deal with the EU. That would change under WTO rules.

Because at present 79% of the food we import gets loaded on a lorry, is driven/flown/shipped straight into the UK and delivered straight to warehouses/supermarkets etc.

If you have to check those goods, no matter how quickly then you are going to introduce chaos as we are just not set up for this. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-45021133

Now whilst that is a major, major problem for just in time manufacturing for perishable goods it's disastrous.

Farmers who can't compete due to bad practices etc will have to improve or sell to them who can.We should no longer pay farms to produce nothing.Another EU scam.

It's a problem for the French to sort out,it's their goods they want to sell,French farmers will make sure their government sort it fast.
We also already do customs checks at Dover and always have.
