Does anyone else notice the resemblance between French athlete Christophe Lemaitre and Canaries' frontman Chris Martin? I mean if only Martin could shift at the same rate as Lemaitre... He would be one heck of a player!
Haha - Awesome! Anyone else shocked that we are playing him? I can't see him scoring many goals in the PL, certainly feel the likes of Jackson and Morison are more of a threat. Don't get me wrong, he has got a good clinical finish (most of the time) but he's slow and not too great with his positioning, work rate can lack a bit (although working harder this season).
I'm surprised we're playing him... not sure about shocked. I really do rate him and have a sneaky feeling this is going to be a huge season for him. Having said that, he's been given a chance early on and to be fair he's been ok at best when others around him have shone. I think he's benefiting from Vaughan's absence as he would be my first choice to partner Holty. Between the other 3, there's not much in it. Morison offers an all round physical threat, Jacko some pace and Martin a nice touch. I think Morison will establish himself as 2nd striker until Vaughan returns (hopefully soon!). Jackson seems too lightweight at this level, he was getting knocked over far too much last year and can't see it improving much. Martin really needs a goal, he missed a big chance against Chelsea but overall acquitted himself well. And as for big Wilbraham, he must be gutted we're out of the League Cup because he seems a million miles from a Premiership striker!
Oh and my other look-a-like shout is Lord Voldemort and Steve Morison! What do you reckon?! I can't find good comparison shots but surely someone else sees it!
Jacko seemed to baulk up a bit towards the end of last season, hoping he has continued on that over pre-season as I haven't seen much of him yet. He may not be that strong but he's certainly quick and there's space to be exploited, something we lack when we don't have the pace of wingers. As I see it, when Holt drops off to win a flick on - Martin is beside him and not looking to get in behind. Jackson plays more off the shoulder, and if he's quick enough to get in behind then it doesn't matter too much how strong he is. I hope he gets on well with Canada over the International break and grabs himself some goals. Agree about Vaughan, he's physical and quick and could certainly see a good partnership with Grolty coming to fruition. I was shocked in that I did not see that selection choice coming from Lambert, I thought with the strikers we had brought in - he'd barely get a sniff. He has a good finish and technique, he just lacks that pace and is probably a bit naive in a positional sense i.e. when Holt drops off, he needs to get further up the pitch etc.
I'm with you on that, but at the same time I would love to see Pilks, Bennett & Jackson on the pitch together. Plenty of pace in there and options running off Holt. On reflection though, to maybe bring the 3 of them on for the last half hour when defenders might be tiring a little would be even better.
Jackson needs to find some confidence again, I saw him last against Parma in a friendly and he didn't look like the player I saw against Scunthorpe. I'm sure he will find his feet and get back into scoring form.
