We're in the middle of an international break, so I thought I would go on the International Football>>England Not606 forum. The place is dead!

Does anyone else think it's a shame that no-one is interested in the English National team anymore?

Tbh, I'm going to watch the game because it will make for a good night out, but I'm already looking fwd to the Norwich v West Brom much more!

If you have been let down your entire life by a bunch of over rated duds, the magic of watching international footy fades... The last world cup was crap

I don't think people are proud anymore, the players attitudes over the years haven't help. The press get naive peoples hopes up, just see how miraculously optimistic people get when we've beaten teams like Kazakhstan and qualified, people need to be a bit more realistic but at the same time being constantly disappointed has effected their enthusiasm. FIFA's absolute hatred of England really pisses me off personally but it spurs me onto support England even more.

Also people aren't taught in this country to nationalistic I even know people who support their grandparents country in sports, but it's very sensitive issue due to right wing ****ers like EDL hijacking things, I would love to see St Georges day taken as a national holiday and not being regarded as a war criminal for putting my flag out during sporting events.

We are simply not good enough to win anything and the officials nearly always screw us... The France Ireland game summed up international footy. Spain played Chile the other day and blatantly dived to win a pen in the 90th min... We all saw the bastard cheat 10 seconds later on a replay and they win 3 2... FIFA are a corrupt group of old men creaming billions from these events and its ruined football

I happen to know that Sepp Blatter is an avid reader of these pages! You ought to put an 'allegedly' in there

It's only us and the Italians who have the beef with Blatter. Hopefully after the Russia and Qatar debacle more countries will have some grievances with.

Did you see the fight between Spain V Chile? One their golden boys throwing kicks around the pitch, I bet if that was anyone else there would of been fines and bans.

I lost interest in England when we failed to qualify in '74.I supported Holland in that World Cup and despite the final result it was the most enjoyable tournament I have seen. Now I just look forward to the next Norwich game.

All the hype in qualification doesn't help then when we play teams that are good we become awful.

When it comes to other international sports I'm well behind England, but it does help that we are good at them and they don't get paid loads. Their minds focused on the sport, not the money. It also helps that we are good at the sports as the table I created in a previous thread shows (take a look please).

I think what really damaged the team is our time under Mclaren.

What also doesn't help our national team is the football clubs and the fact that they are well supported. The rugby clubs and cricket clubs don't attract as big a audience. Also they don't have international breaks and carry on.

    I'm not getting on my high horse because I feel exactly the same as the points above but its odd the difference in our attitudes between club and country;

    Country
"Until they earn my respect, until they show me they stand a chance of winning something I can't be bothered with the overpaid nancyboys!"
"We're never gonna get beyond the quarter finals of a major tournament so what's the point?!"
Surely if we took these attitudes towards our clubs we would rightly be labelled glory-hunters?!?

    Club-
No matter how bad the team is, you stick by them!
Championship mid-table? You've got to stick it out mate!
Glen Roeder as Manager? tough luck, but stick by the youth players on display!
League One? sell-out matches, record gates. etc etc.

International football with just doesn't have the excitement or joy that other sports have. Take for example Mo Farah's 4000m gold medal. But, I do occasionally get caught up in the hype.

We expect from England in football, but it isn't there in other sports. Does that allow the other sports to flourish?

I used to go to Wembley for every England home game in the late 70's & early 80's. Sometimes it was a fantastic night out and have seen some goal fests against the likes of Luxembourg (9-0)and beating the sweaty socks etc.

I have not watched an England game outside of the World Cup or Euro Champs Finals for over 20 years now, not even the qualifying games!

What killed it for me was 2 consecutive home 0-0 draws with Wales & Greece! They just did not appear to care anymore, so I stopped caring about them. My enthusiasm has only been rekindled on 2 occasions since - Italy 90 World Cup & the Euro Champs in England. Only on those 2 occasions did it look like England had a team that would actually play as a team and with some kind of real pride.

I'll admit I did get a bit excited in the qualifiers - several years back when we beat Germany away 5-1 and then Becks swinging in the winner against Greece... Moments like that re-kindle the excitement...

...And then it all goes to sh1t in the tournament itself. I simply cannot believe that the players don't feel proud to pull on the shirt anymore. I think it's more to do with ability and mental preparation.

Its about time our Football players took a leaf (or even the whole bloody tree) from our Cricketers! Through sheer hard work, professionalism, belief in their ability both individually and collectively, they are now the best Test side in the world and will be for many years to come! There isn't much money in cricket compared to the multi millions in football and yet these guys have made our country proud. Yes we will probably qualify for the Euros next year and then fail dismally like we always do <doh>

We need to bin Lampard Gerrard and all the other players who have failed in the last 2 tournaments, Rooney is young enough to survive but Garry Neville hit the nail on the head, he would rather play for Man U because they won things.. They don t really care about the national team.

The perfect scenario for me tonight would be a goal or two from crofts and Morison, an England win and for hart to completely foul up giving ruddy a chance to get into the England squad.

Oh and for any good west brom players to get injured and not able to play on Wednesday.

Also, does the FA need someone like McNally to help run it?
