There are a tonne of matches between the bottom seven from now through Jan 1st. Points will be had no matter how awful our compatriots might be; we have to hope that we'll be getting some of them.
We are just discussing one of the worst saints performances in many, many years? Haven’t seen anyone saying the new manager isn’t up to it or anything
Exactly my fear. I've not got much confidence in us getting many of those points, whilst the odds are that the others around us will pick up their fair share for the simple reason, as you say, that there are so many games. As much as I - and surely every Saints fan - want us to make January signings (even if we have to sell first - which wouldn't actually be a bad thing; getting rid of some of these players would be good, not bad), if we're cut adrift of safety then we'll hardly be an attractive proposition. I want to say that our season starts on January 3rd (with Chelsea and City both being crossed off our fixture list, as well as trips to Wembley and Anfield, we'll be quite well placed fixture-wise). But that's probably only relevant if we can still see 17th in the near distance.
Ran up the stairs at Cardiff Station just as the Paddington Train was leaving. I swear the guy on the platform was grinning when he said “too late. Next one’s in an hour.”
Maybe it’s just me but I feel so uncomfortable having Targett on set pieces. Nothing against the lad but his corners and free kicks are never whipped in with any venom or urgency. At least when JWP takes ones you have hope something might materialise.
Today was a big learning curve. But I do wonder what he saw in Vest to stick him in from the off. He has not looked ready. But, then none of them have staked a claim in the last two games. Wes will be starting next Saturday, and I reckon he'll fair better, especially if we give him more protection. A week to prepare, so even though its Arsenal, that game will give us more info. Lets keep some faith.
I get your gist but I disagree a tiny bit. We can still afford to drift a bit more. Quite prepare to brave out the rest of this month with whatever comes our way..
Yep. Second half of the second half may have been the worst I’ve ever seen us play. First half of the second half we were growing into the game, until Vestergaard decided to give them a goal. Then we fell apart completely
17th won’t be too far away even in the worst of cases. It’s all about faith in the new manager working his coaching magic on the players and the players understanding it. That coupled with the right additions and exits in January. We’ll still have 15 or so games left. It is going to be tough though. Maybe we should target Derby’s 11 points first
I don’t think they’re “not up to it” and we’ve got to give them time too to understand what the boss wants, as you said. They need to step up to the plate though in terms of self management on catastrophic errors.
