Just watching the sky match and wandering why a Hull firm of over 80 years signed one of the biggest championship sponsorship deals ever, with WBA? Does anyone know how this came about, biggest kick in the teeth to City since Paull Dixon sponsored The Codheads
It's actually well over 100 years old (created in Hull in 1906 as 'The National Radiator Co Ltd'). 12 or so years ago, Hull City Council signed a deal with another boiler company to supply boilers for council houses in the city. The two theories were 1) the other boiler firm were cheaper 2) The Ideal boilers at the time were crap. Around 2008ish Ideal created the Logic and subsequently Vogue boilers. The boiler man is one of these. Since these were released Ideal has pretty much rocketed in sales becoming, I believe, the 2nd biggest player in the market. They were 4th or 5th 10 years ago. The KC East Stand was sponsored by Ideal Boilers a few years ago. Then it stopped. Who knows why.... Their CEO is from the Midlands, so there's a link to the likes of WBA. I guess these things happen all the time. A firm based in one city can support a club or something in another city. It's just business. But like I said, Ideal sponsored a stand and don't anymore. Maybe a bad experience? To be honest if we had boiler man it probs wouldn't have got the coverage that even WBA gets.
They’re no longer a Hull Company, since 2015 they’ve just been a division of French company Groupe Atlantic.
To be fair, a company that still employs nearly 800 Hull people and still produces boilers at it's Hull factory as it has done for over a 100 years is still a Hull company. They had American owners a decade ago. It's all relative. Still Hull. And as we all know well, owners come and go, but the core base remains the same. With all the Brexit talk, Ideal are skewing the numbers by booming and yet being owned, at present, by a French company. A Hull company doing well. Good stuff.
Did you work there? Didn’t they employ about 2000 people at one time? As a lad I’m sure they were the biggest employer in the area in 80 /90’s. My dad wanted me to work in the toilet / pottery side
Seems a shame we’ve created little interest from local businesses, Allams and Needlers apart. Some global names originate from Hull Reckitts, Smith and Nephew, William Jackson, Rix, Croda, The Healy bros,Arco to name a few, but none to my knowledge have supported The club in a major way. I know Kcom and MKM offer some sponsorship, but nothing like the deal Ideal have with WBA
Arco, Smith & Nephew and ebuyer (Healey) have all been sponsors in the recent past, I think some still have an involvement.
They’re obviously still a major Hull employer, but if decisions are now made in France, rather than here, it’s not that surprising that they’d go for a higher profile club to promote the business.
Their boilers are ****e. I've had 2. One I got broke down after just over 2 just 2 years. The other one is just ****e. Wish I'd got Bosch
The vogue is an excellent boiler replacing Worcester Bosch as the most reliable now with a 12 year waranty
I hope you're all taking note of Castro here. The German behemoth called Siemens which was founded in Germany over 170 years ago isn't a Hull company just because they opened a plant here a few years back, just in case you thought that. Also the conglomerate Nissan Motor Company, founded in the 1930s in Japan, isn't a Sunderland company just because they opened a plant there. Just in case you thought that. And don't forget to lump the many many times smaller Ideal Boilers company in with those two as it's just the same. Formed in Hull, still based in Hull and employing 800 Hull people, it's not a Hull company. Ok, it's maybe not quite the same. But we've all learned something eh. Siemens/Nissan/Ideal Boilers
Might have been formed in Hull and have employees here but it is no longer a Hull company. Sorry if that is a bit difficult for you to grasp.
