New members, forum software

I posted ages ago (year or two?) about the fact that new members are unable to sign up.

I went out for a pint on Friday with the chap who was trying to join. He said he tried and tried to get the confirmation email sent to him (to a gmail account). I passed on the news posted on here that he should send a message to the mods then forgot about it.

Well, when I saw him the other day I asked why he wasn't on. He said that until you're a member you can't send a message to the mods.

So he gave up.

Now I know why we don't see fresh faces on here. A quick look through a recent long thread says no-one who posted on it registered after 2014.

I was approached similarly some time ago at SMS...contacted mods for him and he was in. Really shouldn't need to be like that though.

 

Is it because we are really the illuminati, and as such want to hold all the Southampton news to ourselves, in the hope of one day creating a Southampton Utopian society that crosses all things MLT with something akin to Steptford wives? If any skate infiltrated it, we may create some less than average footballers that smell of fish and look like Beardsley.

On a serious note, that is worrying as the forum has been a little less vibrant of late, and we always need new blood.

 

I think it's because the wider forum is full of ****s so @brb is saving himself some work.

Registration was working again for a while I believe.

Agree . He gets stick , sometimes rightly so , but it can't be easy .

 

Ironically you can't log out either (on some browsers), you get this error:

That's what happens when the owner doesn't give a **** anymore and hands the reigns over to some Pikey from Kent

It could explain why the Echo site mafia haven't infested this site! I have never been able to sign up for Saintsweb or the Ugly Inside, hasn't done me any harm!

 

Strangely after several years I was finally accepted by Saintsweb….still haven't posted there though. That place is scary.

 

Registration hasn't been disabled since 2014, I'm sure it was up and running for a while.

I've tried with saintsweb loads of times and they never activate my account. Bastards.

 

Thankfully i created an account here during my lurking phase or I would've been ****ed.

Ive noticed some other new members; it's like when babies stare at opposing babies when they see another family

 

^^^ Signed up in May, thought so.

 

We have now had a response from brb who says that the gateway was closed to prevent spambots attacking the site, also banned members signing up again straight away. He will allow genuine people to sign on, so if you give me details (probably best to PM me) I will pass them on to brb.

 

BRB vetting people, what could go wrong?
