Hull City have pocketed almost £650,000 as a result of their contribution to the success of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The governing body of world football set aside £163million in its club benefits programme to be shared out amongst clubs whose players represented their countries in Russia over the summer.

City officially had just two players in action in Russia, Jackson Irvine and Kamil Grosicki, and both failed to reach the knockout stages of the tournament with their respective nations, Australia and Poland.

However, the Tigers will also have seen a share of the money allocated to Seb Larsson, Harry Maguire and Ahmed Elmohamady, having been registered at the KCOM Stadium at some stage during the two years prior to the World Cup starting.

As such, as compensation for their efforts towards the World Cup, FIFA have revealed City received a fee of £645,751.38.

Only 11 teams in England and Wales earned more than the Tigers this summer with Stoke City being the only club outside the top flight to given more. The Potters picked up £1m from the likes of Jack Butland, Mame Biram Diouf and Xherdan Shaqiri.

It's incredible that FIFA have to give away £163m, I'm not sure how Steve Bruce was allowed to let this happen.

Also the manager who spent more money than every other manager in the clubs history combined, and managed to be the most successful manager by one league position.

Phil Brown is the true claimant.

We can thank Silva for raising Maguire's profile - Brucie never started Arry in a single Premier League game

Silva preferred Ranocchia to Alex B at CPFC and look what happened - a catastrophic air shot of a clearance and they went through and scored in the first two mins.

Game was up after that. The ex Interista was a good larker but didn't have Alex's poise and surefootedness.
