Was going to post a while back about why I think the general demonisation of MPs - seen on this thread and just about everywhere else - is unfair. Decided not to bother as I figured it would be a rather lonely position, but came across a review of a new Isabel Hardman book on this topic: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....t-the-wrong-politicians-isabel-hardman-review The review seems good. Will read the book and let others know if it's any good.
I really like Isabel and listen to her opinions. sadly she has been suffering from depression and had to pull out of a recent event. I hope she continues with her political work.
I actually think that the way that parliament has brought the government to book for its contempt regarding the legal advice and has sought to act in the public's best interest by trying to ensure that there is no 'No Deal', has been refreshing and encouraging. May's government is a '****show', but parliament as a whole has acted responsibly in my view (particularly the speaker).
So May has been telling porkies on NI/GB customs border. She said no sea border or extra customs checks and small print say there is. This means NI will be treated differently. Remember what May said? She has to go now.
Is that the same Speaker that has "Bollocks to Brexit" stuck on his car? Good to know he's impartial.
It's on his Range Rover with his own personalised number plate parked in The Commons car park. I think he has behaved poorly. I don't support May's deal because of the indefinite backstop issue, but on all debates, it's notable that Bercow calls almost entirely those that don't support her proposed deal. Unbalanced.
If he calls more that are opposed to her deal (I hadn't noticed), might it not be because there are more of them. These debates are going to last 5 days aren't they? Time for everyone to have their say. Bias is in the eye of the beholder, Goldie.
It's something I noticed, and has also been noted by BBC 24 and Sky News which are hardly Brexit supporting. Of course, it could all be a coincidence but I doubt it. He is biased and a known bully of his staff
The people's vote isn't foreign-funded although a lot of the supporters would put the EU before their own country's democracy. However, I'm up for another vote so we can end this once and for all. Leave would win with a bigger majority. TBH I would welcome one if it shut up the Blairs and Co for good.
It's been noticed by many commentators that the last 3 times in the Commons he has called certain MP's
In better news for you, he also wrote to constituents calling a second vote "fundamentally undemocratic" https://order-order.com/2018/12/03/bercow-second-referendum-fundamentally-undemocratic/
Nice to be able to agree with you fully on this one Ellers. I think she's a fantastic political analyst - and the way she has shared her journey with depression on twitter is highly commendable too.
Yes, somewhat heartening, on the basis that no one is all wrong and Hitler loved his dog...and surprising given that the whole text of his car sticker was "Bollocks to Brexit, it's not a done deal".
