For Steve Bruce there was no chaos. He asked for money and he was given it. The first time he didn't was when Ehab said no to Andre Gray so he spent the £2 million plus wages he was given on Diomande. The Allams did say yes that season to borrowing over £20 million from the bank and in the process mortgaging the training grounds and Premier League monies. It was only when Ehab said no more money for you Steve that he walked before the season started. Our most successful period ever ended virtually the same as our second most successful period. Millions of pounds in debt with a wafer thin squad we couldn't afford if we got relegated. The only difference being under the Allams the debt and wage bill was more than twice it was under Bartlett.
The difference been the 10-14 left in the playing squad was worth an absolute fortune halving the debt in one fell swoop.
Exactly. To reduce the debt and pay the wages of those that remained in contract we had to sell players.
So, he wasn't given money, he was given the backing to sign Andre Gray, the Allams didn't borrow £20 million mortgaging the training ground and PL monies, Bruce didn't walk before the season started, the debt on relegation was less than under Bartlett? What did happen then?
Steve Bruce (our best manager ever) walked because ebab said "sorry Steve we've bottled it so you cant have any money and we are gonna sell your squad to get back what we can" and rightly so he replied " **** that you'll make me look a **** boss and all the fans will think I'm on board with a pair of ****s like you, bye"
Would seem the most likely scenario, name me another manager who got promoted to the Premier League..... and then resigned with no other job to go to.
The chaos Bruce worked under, and subsequent replacement managers continue to work under, was about far more than just money for transfers and we shouldn't forget that.
Some people here can’t accept anything that doesn’t fit with their hatred agenda. You can hate the owners but admit certain things they did were positive. It’s a forum with a very clear agenda these days. We all want new owners but you can’t rewrite history to fit your narrative. Somwere between the lines the truth lies. Sadly, what i am hearing privately about a sale means there is no rich saviour to be seen. I can’t see any change to our mediocrity and ambition in the near future. For the record I want the Allams gone, yesterday.
Lots of people go to work and don't like the boss, lots of bosses make bad decisions but we carry on, but when the boss stops you from being able to do your job to a good standard but still wants you to be there, then its time to leave, its just about having pride in what you do. If someone asked me to do a substandard job to save money then I would say no I don't do that perhaps you'd be better with someone else. I also think that he came as a manager and they were trying to relegate him to coach, what good manager is going to let other people choose his players.
Bruce was forced out because Ehab didn't like him and wanted to play billy big bollocks, he'd been edging him out long before we were relegated and Bruce certainly didn't walk because we didn't sign Gray a year earlier. It's his take on what happened and what the consequences were that I believe to be bollocks.
Obi has hypothesised by refusing Bruce another war chest Ehab saved the club from being plunged further in debt. The counter argument is, with this money we would have remained in the golden land tapping the untold riches. We will never know either way.
The money was there, it got spent eventually, badly and too late on. But it was there. Getting rid of Bruce was fair enough and in the manner it happened without having to pay him a penny it really was a master stroke.
It completely ignores the fact that we forced him out, then went on to spunk another fortune backing Silva while playing catch-up.
