I've made it clear on here many times how singularly unimpressed I am by the whole VAR idea so I won't start getting into it again. Just to say that the more questions are asked the more the impracticality is evident and the idea that it is somehow going to eradicate cheating and bad or subjective decisions is obviously fanciful. I can't remember the details, but there was an incident in the WC where a ref took about 4 minutes to review his decision, everyone could see he'd got it wrong, but he still upheld his original view. Pride and obstinacy - as well as subjectivity - will play a major part.
difficult to when there is contact though it may stop Hazard ,DCL etc playing the defender instead of the ball to get a foul.
Imagine if every time one of them goes rolling around the ref has to trot over and watch telly for a bit to decide if there was sufficient contact.
So long as you give a yellow when the contact was exaggerated it will happen twice and then never again
only if they do it in a pen area. VAR is limited to game changing decisions. If they flop about in a corner he doesn't need to review. My strong view is rules on cards need to be changed. The rules now require no contact to call a dive. If a ref can now look at a pen call in replay and watch a player stick his leg into the defender then flop over, inducing the contact then surely if his call is "no pen" then he must give a card to the offender. in my view: a) a pen is awarded when a foul is made. clear contract with man and not ball. VAR should barely be required if a ref is so sure. he should not even look, he shoudl have his assistant in the box in his year saying yeah looks ok.... no delay imo... b) If the review shows its a marginal maybe he got the ball thats what VAR is for. take the minute. c) if the review shows the defender did his best but the attacker induces contact or kicks ball miles past and runs into keeper or whatever then they should be booked. You've caused a delay in the game by trying to cheat. Actually I would even like a different colour card that carries a higher level of suspension. Say you dive and you get a purple card. don't send him off but suspend him from next match... that'd stop it instantly.
Ferd pulls down Hughes as he goes past him No card Even commentators comment on it Really is beyond stupid now Clear yellow
By all rights we "could" be top for Christmas but I doubt it even though games are winnable outside a couple.
