We're due a break guys....sparky just didn't have much luck going for him. So we must be due some luck.......or whatever............
He's a great guy and I love him he's just not very good. Its the same as the affection shown to Super Kelv, another great guy and a club legend for not actually being that super.
Maya Yoshida's comments on the dismissal of Mark Hughes... "I always feel guilty when managers have to leave the club after not getting good results," "I shouldn’t be surprised, but after we played against Manchester United, I am a little bit surprised. "It isn’t only the manager’s problem and every single player has to take responsibility. We didn’t win 10 games and as a professional it simply isn’t enough. "We have to change it and the club decided to make the difficult decision. "As a professional, if we get a big salary with Southampton in the Premier League, we need to take responsibility. "I’m really grateful to Mark Hughes who had success by keeping us in the Premier League, which was really important when he arrived. "We can’t put all the responsibility on Mark Hughes and say it was his fault. "Individually, every single player and member of staff who is connected to the club, has to take responsibility. "As a human being, it’s a really sad moment when a manager has to leave. "He showed up in front of us to give us his last speech, similar to what we had with Mauricio [Pellegrino]. "He was still positive until the end and he showed us respect. He left as a man. "But have to go to another level now, and to do that we need to come back again. We need to climb the mountain, and this is the time where we have to survive. "After Mauricio Pellegrino went, everyone said ‘it’s too late’, but we did it and we can do it again."
I was wondering what on Earth made me think it was a good idea to go gallivanting off to Wales this close to Chrimbo. I must have had a subconscious premonition
Perhaps Mark needed more of our faith in him. Might have eased the pressure earlier on. I still think we can polish Wes into a player, but might take some time & a signing to do that.
I know even less German than you, but I remember “bumsen”, and I remember the fraulein who taught me the word.
Maya has proved a couple of times that when he gets a decent run of games he is a top class defender and one we can rely on. When he is constantly in and out of the team he tends to make the odd howler. This points towards a mind-set challenge, not an ability one. Japan are a half decent international team and although not renowned for their top class defenders, you don't become one of their first picks (and captain) by being an average player.
The problems with our defence are mostly collective rather than individual imo. A better organised defence would mean players covering for each other, so that individual errors aren’t punished every time.
Made the PFA Team of the Year for 3 consecutive seasons during our climb up through the leagues to the PL.
Got to make sure this guy is signed before kick-off at Wembley tomorrow night..... so that he can't change his mind once he sees our defenders in action
