http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/england-u21-call-for-smith-050911.html Another one of our academy players - Adam Smith has been called up to the England U-21 squad for tonights friendly, joining Steven Caulker. Seems the loan system we have is working really well for our youngsters. It's a shame he's a right back in a way, we have so much talent in that position that I just can't see him ever getting much game time with us, especially as Walker is of a similar age and with Corluka, Kaboul and Naughton as well, it's probably the hardest position to nail down in the team. Still... Always nice to know that the academy's going in the right direction in producing young talent.
I agree with all of that. We don't know how all of our current right-backs are going to work out though, so it can't hurt to have another prospect coming through.
I saw him play in a preseason game for us a few years back and thought he did well. Hutton, Kaboul and Corluka all played at right back for us last season so if he's got what it takes I'm sure he'll get his chances over the next couple of years.
Was that the Dortmund game Schteffen? I remember watching him in that one when it was live on Spurs TV Online and I think I saw him at Leyton Orient too, he looked pretty good then. I just feel with the age and skill level all ready of our current RB's, unless injuries occur, I can't see him getting much of a chance. In a way I hope I'm wrong as the more competition the better it is for the team.
He had a pretty good game against Barca in one of last summer's tournaments. It's bizarre that we've managed to stockpile right backs in the last couple of seasons, because that's one area of the team I'm satisfied we've got covered for the near future. At least Naughton can play left back as well, which makes it all the more strange we loaned him to Norwich (who played him on the right wing last game out) knowing full well BAE will be off to the Cup of Nations in January.
Actually Cameroon and South Africa don't look at all likely to qualify and Togo definitely can't so we may not lose anyone
Non-Tottenham fans don't seem to appreciate how young our squad is and how many youngsters we have coming through (at last). The following team could still be playing in 2020 Gomes, Walker, Caulker, Kaboul, Rose, Sandro, Livermore, Townsend, Lennon, Bale, Kane. Subs Button, Smith, Naughton, Parrett, Carroll, Ceballos, Coulibaly They won't all come through, obviously, but it looks pretty bright
I was thinking it might have been the Eusebio Cup, not sure what game. I just remember being impressed, he looked very confident.
