I've been telling you this for over a year mate but I don't think you realise just how bad Pellegrino was.
Thank you Sparky for keeping us up. There genuinely were some positives to take from your tenure, definitely a step up from Pellegrino despite the worse results. I think if you hadnt kept picking Hoedt, long, Austin and Cedric we would have many more points, and you would still have a job.
Improved Redmond massively, improved Tadic and PEH, gave Valery and Obafemi a chance at the end there... seemed decent chap in most of his press conferences. Those are my positives
The best statistic of Sparky’s Saints management was that he got Cedric to score in his first game in charge, and again in his last. Apart from that, thanks for keeping us up, although I suspect that that feat was made somewhat easier by Swansea, Stoke and West Brom being even worse than us.
Okay. Redmond has a bad season but is the same player under Puel, zero assists or goals this season. Granted he is a plus for us and will do well under the new management, but not sure Hughes has improved him. Tadic was good for a month last year, as above I think Hughes gave them perhaps confidence, but Tadic is someone who I agree with, but I’m context is one player for one month. PEH just needed to play, not sure Hughes improves him other than giving him minutes. I’m not going to respond to the two nippers.
One thing should be remembered, had he failed to keep us up last season, it is highly unlikely that we would be able to attract the likes of Ralph Hasenhüttl now.
Oh stone, that’s warmer than I thought I get he will be unhappy. But he had his chance and blew it and is likely very handsomely paid off. That’s where my sympathy ends. And he was pretty ****, and I just don’t get this reward culture for failure.
I’m not begrudging people’s sentiments at all. I think with how last season planned out MP2 would have kept us up, and I think the failures of the other teams worked for us, not Hughes tactics and I never wanted him to be kept on after the summer.
That's ok, we move on to hopefully bigger and better things and i'm sure that Hughes will find a job in football somewhere.
Seems a decent bloke who got us playing ok apart from holding onto leads. Hughes could be fairly judged by the success or failure of the new man over the rest of this season. If no improvement from the new manager then that is 4 managers who have supposedly failed with our club. Says more about the squad than the manager.
