Interesting that we seem to be close to a manager appointment, despite not bringing in DoF yet...I'd imagined that a DoF would be kind of involved with that sort of decision making
Suspect he is. I just hope if it’s a recent development and Mitchell is now saying “yeah maybe one day, just not now” that it doesn’t cause the house of cards to tumble.
Would be good if the players were getting equally as excited. They could do with a confidence boost even more than us.
Beckham was the closest thing to Le Tiss in his all round game we have seen. He could run a bit faster too! And his vision, don’t forget he was 19 when he did this:
This. This what I enjoyed so much about our previous incarnation. If you cant be the biggest or best, there's a distinct pleasure in being modern and progressive - if ultimately only by association as a supporter It maybe a type of vanity but it's a far better one than glory hunting; or dutifully having to invest in the mediocre.
I was a bit staggered by Hughes' sacking. All the comments from the club seemed to suggest that the players were behind him and the performances had improved. I have not read all the comments concerning today's news but I think that the performance on Saturday demonstrated for me that the side is actually better than most people had thought. I feel that the real problem is that none of the central defenders are that good. Of the five, I would have kept Stephens and retained Yoshida as backup. The others, including the unproven Bednarek, should be moved on. Last week we saw a Hoedt error lose us a match and this weekend we witnessed Vestergaard do the same. I do not rate either and both are symptomatic of the poor signings that followed Koeman's departure. I think that Hughes can feel unlucky to get sacked after what was a decent display on Saturday albeit a game we should not have lost. For my money, Hughes was worth a punt and I think earned a try after saving us last season. However, I have been really disappointed with the performances I have witnessed this season with the Man Utd game being the only one I found to be enjoyable. Whilst the performances have undoubtedly improved, the results have remained resolutely poor and I do not feel we would have stayed up under Hughes. It has been fascinating reading some of the posts by Pompey fans on the BBC website who could smell blood and the potential for the balance of power to swing to the blue half of the county. If the proposed appointment works out, we need to get the central defence sorted and then I believe we will pull clear. I am not convinced that we would have managed to salvage our pride if Hughes was in charge in the Championship. I cannot see Pompey missing promotion and I would have to add I think they will make a good fist of things next season too. Uncharacteristically, the club now seems to be being run professionally. One thing I would like to add is that two major positives for me in the last week have been the addition both Yann Valery and Michael Obafemi. They have both been really impressive with Obafemi being perhaps more of a stand-out insofar that he appears to be the answer to the prayers of the supporters. What I would be interested to learn is whether there are any youngsters who could come in to the heart of defence in recent weeks ? Just hope we get rid of Hoedt and Vestergaard in the January window as they are not good enough for this level and perhaps preventing more deserving talent coming through the ranks.
Seen the Hazel-nutter interview, love the Mitchell link..... ..... am fully expectant on an Allerdyce/Moyes dual role with Megson as DoF......
