The World Cup has only just started but I have already had my favourite commentary moment from a Spanish commentator on Robbie Williams singing “Oh Robbie, if only you would entertain us”.
And if you have put money on Spain to win then kiss it goodbye. Real Madrid appointing Spain’s manager and then letting the Spanish FA know 5 minutes before the rest of the World has caused absolute Chaos out here.
Well. That Portugal vs Spain game was a cracker. Suffice to say Ronaldo isn’t winning any man of the year awards around here.
Wasn't it just. And thank goodness for that 'cos the rest has been absolute rubbish. The Spanish passing and ball control was so good. Had my 5p on Costa getting his hat trick - even imagined myself feeling sorry for Portugal losing 4-2 - then he was taken off and the other one got his. He should be locked up !!
I like many others have been enthralled by our world cup team, but there is already talk about them being knighted should they win. I personally am against these awards especially when you look at the complete no marks who have received them. If we should continue with this outdated system, then should not the surviving members of the 66 campaign be rewarded likewise.
Awright gents, how goes it? Long time no see! Have to say, a small part of me is dreading next season - a return to being last on MOTD every week, Lawro's predictions being rubbish, and not having a winnable game every week! However we're much better to watch these days! COYW!
Hiya Bidley. Good to hear from you. The old 5p says none of those predictions come true this season. Well, except for Lawro, who surprisingly, if the world Cup is anything to go by, is still around !!
The QPR fandago for their breach of FFP rules however many years ago, has at been settled. At a cost of £41.965 million to them. plus a transfer embargo. Does this mean "Brolly" McClaren won't be able to sign Chris Martin !!?? . Link to story: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/queens-park-rangers-accept-transfer-ban-hp9mpmjt7
Upsetting to hear Lawro on the air again more distressing is Danny Murphy appearing to model himself on him and pitching for the role of dour, jaded and sarcastic pundit.
Manchester United sign Lee Grant; Chelsea sign Rob Green; Barcelona linked with Simon Mignolet. Is it just me, or or are the top clubs of Europe (and Chelsea) having a 'who brings the worst date' game with their back-up keepers?
Wasn't sure what thread to put this thought but decided off beat sounded appropriate - I watched the Spurs match again tonight and saw us do our usual huddle before the game - it occurred to me that some of the players don't speak english so I wonder how this works in that huddle, do you think someone interprets ? I presume Cairney does the talk.
McDonald was the one usually doing the pre-game rousing talk. As mentioned elsewhere the newbies should be fairly comfortable "Read somewhere that the Club were surprised to find that Sergio Rico spoke, pretty much, no English at all. This got me thinking about communication on the field - essential between a keeper and his back four but important across the board. Don't think our current set up is anywhere near perfect but it could be a jolly sight worse : French speakers Kebano Kamara Ayite Cisse Anguissa Seri Le Marchand Spanish speakers Rico Fabri Vietto And indeed, all the coaching staff" Suspect in the huddle at the moment they simply do a chant type thing - "Que Seri Seri" !?
Have been disinterested in the Championship this year. Came across the table today however. Wish you were here? It's even more of a dog fight than ever - even Aston Villa (15th) are in with a chance. I'm content with where we are, thank you very much.
Strange that I've been more interested in watching The Championship on Quest than I have watching Premier games on MOTD.
I find this new fade of passing the ball out from the goalkeeper a bit of a joke. There are so many teams in Europe trying it and balls-ing it up that It don't understand the advantage of it, a lot of goals have been scored by opposition pressing. I watch a lot of European games and there are very few teams that have perfected it.
Interesting contrast to our managerial change. We had a replacement ready - and a bloody good one at that - while Southampton are off looking, have put in a reserve coach as caretaker and will end up with somebody like Big Sam
Oh Dear !!! Sacked twice within the year !!! And yeah, as Fred said, the usual suspects are in the frame but a bit strange Southampton haven't got a replacement lined up. On the bigger picture it's a pity really since they could "do a Sunderland" with the change - Sparky saved them last year, could the new man do it again ?
