Mitchell goes to Leipzig. Reed gets sacked. We chuck a bag of money at Mitchell to be our new DoF. Mitchell says "hey, you should get this chap Hassenhuttl in, he's pretty handy". And so....
Three managers in 18 months, poor signings, lack of consistency in coaching and guidance of managers. All these things add up to a board who do not have a clue about timing and strategy. No manager is able to make a huge difference to simply poor players. Hughes had a poor hand dealt to him and no business ever gets success with this type of constant change and simply a lack of resources. You can’t make a decent cake out of poor ingredients I’m afraid, even with the best chef. Tons of money being paid out in compensation to past managers, poor high priced players out on loan, what other evidence do we need to see a board in panic mode? How long will the next person get?
But all of those things have occurred under the previous leadership of Reed. Now he's out of the picture, we're actually making progressive moves (Mitchell and Hasenhuttl if it is to be them) as opposed to dinosaur stuff. It's what we used to do, with a key person that was part of the picture when we used to be good. It's excellent news and the start of a new upturn (in my opinion). Getting back to what we were - a progressive, clever club, rather than continuing to tumble blindly downhill.
I'd be happy with Mitchell back with any manager, this Austrian bloke would be the icing on the cake.
Time will tell. Hardly panic management though in my view. It seems clear to me that with the departure of Reed, the presence of Sousa at Fulham and the rumours around Flores, Mitchell and Hasenhuttl suggest to me a plan put in place a while back and just running its course (which explains why the departure of Hughes follows hard on the heels of a half decent result). I think they have a preferred replacement lined up but the advert will be a sensible 'test' of the market. I could well see applications coming in from Pahars (see Independent article at the weekend - Pahars still has the dream of managing Saints one day) and maybe even Blanc. Either way, the board are as keen as us to get it right this time.
'Moyes open to Saints vacancy' http://www.skysports.com/share/11570600 Of course ****ing is! Bugger off Moyesey
some harsh comments. He kept saints up last season - we were in freefal at the time. Too many players that arent bothered, players sold that should not hved been and too many players signed that are not good enough at playing football. Thats not all Hughes's fault.
****ing Sky!....lazy journalism at its' worst..."Hughes is sacked, which failed English Managers can we talk to about replacing him?", twats.
I've been in management along time now, And as a team of ppl it is absolutely imperative that you inspire and get the best out of your team. It falls on you, Even a Hoedt could do much more if he was managed correctly.
Exactly. How many players that can't be bothered do you see turning out for the likes of Klopp and Poch. If they did turn out like that, they aren't in the team long (and they know that).
I don't believe this stuff about players not bothered....they care...it's just a case of not quite good enough or heads going down after so many poor results. Things would have looked different if we started with a couple of decent results resulting in an improvement in the players' confidence.
It also helps when your manager seems to have a clue about which team he knows is the best and tactics will be best used against which ever team he is up against. Opposed to just guess work.. Which probably didn't;t impress a number of Saints players.
1 win in 15 games is not panic management. He had to go. Now if Allardyce was named manager then you may have a case to argue. But it sounds like Saints are going down the same direction from when they appointed Pochettino.
Look at the upturn of several Arsenal players under Unai Emery... your coaching and your attitude and demands are absolutely important. The 'well they're professional footballers so the coach shouldn't need to do much' is such a lame excuse.
