Any of you gents do anything for charity or do anything charitable over the Christmas period? I'm lucky enough to have been brought up in a relatively well off family. Must be really **** to be poor or homeless at this time of year. I'd like to do something - I quite often buy an extra coffee for homeless folk.
I wasn't born into a well off family so I can't really afford to splash out on an extra Coffee for others tbh
I'm not well off by any measure, but I have been in the past. I gave to charity then and still do now, each month. It's not a huge amount, but it's not a huge charity either.
We do these Samaritans Christmas boxes every year. They don't involve loads but I bet they're well appreciated by the kids who receive them.
The wise man does not lay up his own treasures. The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own. - Lao Tzu, ancient Chinese philosopher
Fair play There is an area of town round my way where homeless folk base themselves. I might just get them all a bacon roll and a coffee the day before or something.
These things go abroad by the way. I doubt British kids would appreciate them, regardless of how poor they are!!
One of my main concerns with charities is how much is actually going to the people who need it. I also want my charity to go to folk in the UK. I think we should take care of our own before sending money abroad.
I completely disagree. The more we talk about giving to charity the more likely it's going to remind people to do something. If some celebrity wants a pat on the back for giving to charity then they can have it, and they raise a lot of awareness when they do it. Donate and tell others to do the same.
If people need to be reminded or encouraged to give to charity, then it's a sad world we are living in.
But it's true. Look how much Children in Need or Comic Relief raise in one day. People have had the rest of the year to donate but don't for whatever reason.
