Gary Cahill to spark bidding war between Chelsea and Spurs in January
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is planning to challenge Spurs for the signature of Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill when the January transfer window opens.

England centre-back Cahill was close to joining Tottenham on deadline day, but the deal fell through because a fee could not be agreed.

Gary Cahill could get his big move in January (PA)
Bolton wanted £17million for the 25-year-old - a figure that had deterred Arsenal and Liverpool earlier in the summer.
However, Cahill is now in the final year of his contract and Wanderers will look to offload him for around £8million in January, unless he signs a new deal.
Spurs are planning to renew their interest, but will face competition from Chelsea, reports the People.
Villas-Boas apparently wants to pair Cahill with his international team-mate John Terry at the heart of the Blues defence and will ask owner Roman Abramovich for the funds to sign him.
Arsenal and Liverpool are unlikely to return with new bids for the Bolton star, having signed Per Mertesacker and Sebastian Coates respectively in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

This is what happens when there is very little football to report on.

I wanted Cahill in the last window think he's good player who can improve a lot, though now he'll only have 6 months left on his contract when we can next bid for him, I wouldn't go any higher than the £8m stated (even then I think that might be too much), unless we're in a defensive crisis, I'd rather try and get him on a pre-contract and have him for free next summer.

I bet Chelsea end up flexing their financial muscle and get him - even if it's purely to spite you guys! <grr>

Someone will sign him on a pre-contract and then offer Bolton a smallish sum for him.
Whether they'll accept or not will depend on how their season's going.

  6. Cahill will come to us if he wants to play regular first team football, or to the Chavs if, like Nasri and Modric, he loves money more than football.

    It's all really quite simple.

I think he would play regular football at Chelsea with Terry on his way out sooner rather than later <ok>

    I think he's right.
Terry's style of play is going to take it's toll sooner or later and Alex seems unsettled.
Cahill would have a chance to play there.

  10. Yeah, I know he's right. No harm in fantasizing though, is there? It's something that, as a Spurs fan of many years standing, I've grown accustomed to.

It, of course, depends on whether The Chavs really are interested, or it's just some lazy journo trying to create a story. If they ARE interested, then it's likely that's where he'll go. We can't offer CL football, and we can't afford to get into a financial pissing contest with The Chavs.

I thought 25 of your 28 posts were wumming on the Liverpool board?

EDIT: Sorry that a couple of our members opened a ridiculous multi-board thread on your board last night - but it was a direct response to this user wumming our board. I was not involved and didn't even make a comment <ok>

At the end of the day if a top 4 club are in for a player, that player is not going to turn them down! And if that club are prepared to invest in him then he is likely to play regularly for them! Im sure its all just specualtion though!! Interesting that david luiz hasn't featured for Chelsea this season!??

I was quite surprised at that too, is he injured or just being benched?

Hopefully one day there'll be player that realises taking an extra 20k at Chelsea will be to the detriment of their career. The hype will soon fade and they'll find themselves shelved in favour of the latest big money signing.

I don't expect us to get him if any of the rest of the top 6 go for him, it's very rare that a player will choose lesser wages.

He returned injured from the Copa America, should be fit for Saturdays game. David Luiz will be 1st choice playing with Terry but the club were trying to offload Alex throughout the summer. I expect Alex to go in January and Chelsea will sign Cahill as 3rd choice centre back. Apparantly a agreement has already been put in place which included the Kakuta to Bolton loan deal.
