Something to do with why we didn't conceded two more in the second half? We needed the numbers up front in the first half to get two ahead but we were also very porous on the counter and my guess its Hughes' halftime talk was along the lines of 'lets hang on for a point'. 'Concentrate on the defence'. Lots of posititves from that game. I am so stoked to see Valery and Obafemi on the pitch.
There was a couple of local lads who got a bit upset when I mentioned they’d done well to lose their Manc accents One of them gave me some sh1t about winning the treble. Funny, until he admitted he was 2 at the time
Because it’s a pathetic rating? He was to blame for partially for one goal. Yoshida who got pushed off and fully to blame for the first gets a higher rating. Vestergaard made many important interceptions and tackles, but still get a 5. I stick with get a grip.
I first saw Vestergaard in the pre season at Derby with friends who are Derby fans, and they couldn't believe that we paid so much for him. Personally I couldn't either. He is slow and ponderous, he is for us, against a fast mobile attack, that the Maginot Line was to the French against the blitzkreig. A complete waste of money and superfluous. Ponderous and easily bypassed. ps Not the Man U were slick
he reminds me of a younger Sterling, so you never know, like good wine he might become really good. Then again he might become vinegar
Lemina was my MOTM, I thought he was very good. Indeed, he's starting to produce on a regular basis now; unlike last season, when I was never sure which Lemina would turn up. Redmond was good too, and Valery was fine on his PL debut. PEH, Armstrong, Cedric and Stephens were all solid if unspectacular (the FK aside!). The issue, and it ultimately cost us two points, was Vestergaard and Yoshida. Both were at fault for both goals (Yoshida more so than Vestergaard in my view). Painfully bad defending. I feel for the players and I feel for Hughes, because yet again we haven't won a match which our performance deserved in my view. (I think I'm right in saying that other than the Chelsea game, we've only been behind at home for a grand total of about 2 minutes this season - and yet have zero wins.) But, at the end of the day, it's a results business and I suspect that this has just pushed Hughes closer to the door. If we end this three match week with less than three points, I'm not expecting to see Hughes in the dugout when we next rock up at SMS.
First and foremost it is the teams in the Solent área I support and always have done. I´d like to know any other teams that I allegedly support. I do admit to wanting La Liga teams to do well in Europe. Who the hell wants any of our PL teams to win the CL? Apart from Manchester United supporters with Midland accents.
I thought there were a number of Saints players who were the motm, but who did the bias BBC give it to? Yep, a United player Rashford. Although, he had a hand in their goals he certainly had a hand in one of ours. Also his passing and shooting was poor. Predictable favourtism from the beeb.
Wow, yeah, you are correct. Couple minutes of stoppage time against Leicester, 60 against Chelsea, and we haven't trailed otherwise at home...yet we also haven't actually won a home match. Adds further weight to the notion that the only score we find comfortable is a level one. Leading? Panic. Losing? Give up. Drawing? Just right.
Loads of people in er England want English teams to win the Champions League. There is a thing called patriotism Ides. There is nothing wrong with that. Actually when you go all anti England it’s all a bit creepy for my liking, perhaps you could demonstrate a little more tolerance towards those that do.
MOTD said the same about Vestergaard so they made a good partnership. Against Leicester they were pretty descent tbh but agree with Beef, he may be a cart horse but doesn’t appear to make horrendous errors and the other players appear more at ease playing with him. I suspect he hasn’t got as much of an attitude as Hoedt. Against Cardiff, he will be invaluable as they are like playing the old Stoke with an aerial bombardment
You might be right with your first line, but we need to get a better balance between sitting back and getting forward to support the striker.
That’s up to you Ides, it would be a shame as generally I like your posts, but the occasional anti English theme gets too much for me personally. I’m not sure I was trying to teach you either, just asking for a little tolerance which isn’t so unreasonable. Each to their own though, and if you can’t face a challenge now and again perhaps a forum isn’t the place for you!
