I’m not going to get too low about United coming back from two down. Whether or not, as a team, they are “average” this season, they are still pumped full of quality players who can change a game in seconds, and still have the like of Lingard, Mata and Martial warming the bench....... What was apparent, especially in the second half, was the number of times when we worked a good position to get the ball into the box, there was only one player in there. It is essential that we get more players in there to aim at and if any questions are to be asked today, one should be why Armstrong wasn’t getting closer to Obafemi/Gabbiadini in our build ups. He seemed to spend a too much time sitting too deep. We really need him pushing forward for the entire 90+ minutes.
Watched the game on TV at my Dad's. OK we blew another lead. But we didn't capitulate in the 2nd half. I thought we would lose at HT. Two cracking goals and both Valery and Obafemi looked good. I'm actually not that disappointed. Definitely some positives to take out of today.
Good point Saints - feared the worst when it went 2-2, but much better defensively second half. A bit more attention to tracking runners and getting goal side, and we`ll be fine!
Didn't watch the game but definitely happy with a point, tad disappointing to lose a two goal lead but glad that we didn't collapse in the second half (against a good side) and that could be a big boost too and something to build on. Pleased to hear that it sounded like Obafemi played a part again, hope he continues to get a run in the team.
Experience cost us today.........I’m not convinced the second goal should have been given for united as I thought the ball went out of play. However having said that every one stopped rather than make sure....... a big mistake! Something as a defender you are coached. (Or used to be) over all Saints went for united and were a tad unlucky as they played quite well. It was nice to see them playing so high up the pitch. The young 18 year old played a blinder as did Armstrong. Keep playing as well as that Saints and you will start to get the results.
We looked alright at times tonight. Some very good play. United were ****, for United. Hard to judge our game because of that. This **** United team scored with their first two shots on target; that’s a worry. Lots good. Lots bad. It’s about results now and results aren’t great. I did enjoy watching it with a pub full of United fans - they were delighted to get a draw. That says a lot about them.
I suspect that overall the team feel more positive than they have for a long time...and that is a good thing. At 2-2 I bet we all thought we'd lose 3-2 and I suspect the team did as well.
Once they equalised, Utd went back into their shells just when I expected them to go for the jugular. Bit strange that. A Man U supporting mate reckons they’ll have a new manager before we will. Wouldn’t surprise me tbh.
McCarthy - 5.5 Valery - 7 Stephens - 7 Vestegaard - 5 Yoshida - 6 Cedric - 7 Lemina - 7.5 Hojbjerg - 7 Redmond - 7 Obafemi - 7 Gabbiadini - 6 Pleased enough in the end with the point after half time. I was sure we'd leave empty handed with United having all the momentum. However these sort of moral victories aren't enough. We need wins on the board ASAP. Very happy with the two young lads performances however. Hope Obafemi's injury isn't too bad
I am thinking some of our fans are being a bit unrealistic, I would have taken a point before the game. I thought under the circumstances it was a decent performance, on paper we had a weak XI out there and those that played, certainly gave it their all. As for their first goal it was Maya who slipped at the vital moment which beggars the thought, why did they water the pitch? We had just had about 7 hours of steady rain, how much O2 does it need? Lukaku could have been badly injured when he became a victim of the slippery turf and Kevin Friend was quite right to stop the game. Luckily he seemed to get away with it. Not sure Vest should take all the blame for the second, it was a class act goal which I enjoyed even though it cost us two points, also Vest is short of match experience, if he had been playing regularly, he would been sharper i.m.o. Lemina was my MoM, he took a few knocks and just got up and got on with it. 5th yellow means he will miss Spuds does it not? Valery put in a creditable performance, he has to grow up and learn fast at this level. Oba did what he was there for and I am biased enough to say I thought he was fouled in the area, but knew Mr Friend wouldn't give us anything! That "new" left back put in a good performance, and if we had a striker that could read Redmonds creations, he would have had a sackfull of assists. I am much happier tonight.
I was sure that I heard a whistle blown just before their second goal and also thought that the ball had gone out! Also as Cedric had scored from a free kick, why did the spoilsports not let him take the others, which ended up in Row Z from Hoj and Gab?
Did you not see his 'attempt' at a tackle for their second? Also he was 5 mins late into about 3 or 4 other tackles. He's a real clumsy liability.
Are there a lot of Mancunians in your part of the world? Or are these guys just incapable of supporting either the local teams - Northampton, MK Dons, or one of the bigger teams in the región - Leicester, Villa and Wolves?
Not exactly match fit is he? He has been gaining splinters for weeks, there isn't an on/off switch where a player becomes an instant hero, some take longer to get up to speed. We had two untried kids and a back CB set up that had rarely played together in the same team. It takes a while for a settled XI to play as a complete team.
