you forgot that this bloke also reckons we should be having the peoples vote so he's obviously still for the EU
That's not what this is about. I already said he was a remainer. The point is that not only does he think that May’s deal sucks. More importantly was his comments regarding the EU and his experience with dealing with them. Seriously chaps you need to take off your EU rose tinted glasses and start address the points being made about the EU.
On another note when Micheal Portillio was asked by Andrew Neil if he believed that we would be better off outside the EU even after a bumpy start, he said. ”Once we are outside the European Union who's growth rate is lower than ours which has already destroyed the economies of Southern Europe by introducing the Euro. Once we are outside an organisation that is causing the raise of populism amongst its member states because of its absurd commitment of free movement of people not labour then I do believe we have a brighter future”.
This is a subject that I am confident I am reasonably well informed Paul. Whilst intelligence is certainly shared in both directions and we will both be worse off if there's no co-operation, there isn't an intelligence service within the EU that compares to our own. They definitely rely on us more. The EU will most definitely suffer if our special forces stop helping them. Our advice, support and expertise is invaluable to them.
think that's the point. He's seen how ****ty the EU is treating this negotiation (to be expected really) and how the EU are trying into bullying us into a crap deal. Yet he would still choose to remain in the EU rather than go for no deal....
Peter Gouldstone the 94yr old that was attacked in his home earlier this month has died in hospital. What disgusting individuals we have.
If the EU are saying this then more fool them. I don’t really see why international cooperation between national security services has to do with the EU, we can and do cooperate with many non EU nations on security. If the German, French etc security services want to cooperate with ours post Brexit, and they will want to because terrorists aren’t hampered by archaic ideas about national borders, they will find a way to. As for our training services, presumably that’s a rather specialised market, who else provides the service? The Israelis, the Yanks? so you want us out of NATO as well?
some people don't and will be put off by it. Some people like the aforementioned ex minister thinks it's worth signing up for even with that negative. not quite the same but it'd be how the English FA is still signed up to UEFA/FIFA even though there is nation bias due to our hooligan days.
With all due respect col, I know very little about our intelligence services, but didn't we have knowledge of some terrorists and then let them back in to our country to commit an atrocity?? I may be mistaken on that but if I'm not then they can't rank that far up in the table.
It happens Bob. However, they stop 100s of plots every year and, due to the secrecy involved, these rarely come to light. All agencies make mistakes but ours deserve huge credit for what they do with regards to National security.
Sorry bob but what you are saying is.....? It's like saying you are good at carrying buckets of water up a hill but complain if you spill one drop. What Col said is spot on regarding our security and intelligence services which are better than the lot of them put together. I guess I must what too much news/ current affairs programs because only recently this subject was on and all involved said ours was the best and that May could use it as a bargaining chip.
I didn't say it was going to happen. We were talking hypothetically. EU Countries will be desperate to retain the help of our intelligence agencies. As for training, the point I was making was that our SF are the best in the World and therefore are used by nearly all other SF for training and advise on SOPs. There's no suggestion that we won't continue to help the EU in this way, but I was musing about how it would effect them if we did, as they have removed us from Galileo.
Again mr superior assuming everybody other than his knowledgeable self spouts rubbish, perhaps the corrupt EU is the place for you to go live, because they don’t accept other people’s opinions, votes or democracy, nor the sovereign state, which is your permanent outlook Maybe the U.K. will be a whole lot better without europhile, arrogant self obsessed people like you preaching YOUR version of how it should be.
I follow the news, from a variety of sources. The British troops are in Estonia as part of a NATO deployment to deter Russian aggression. Estonia is a NATO member. So, do you want us to leave NATO as well, or did you not understand that this has nothing to do with the EU army you appear to be so terrified of? OK, so it’s a threat in a negotiation. Fair enough. I think we gave up access to Galileo as part of the negotiations which I think we agree have been handled with zero competence. I’m sure we can buy ourselves back in, which will be cheaper than the cretinous idea that we build our own version. How they think this is a good idea when they are now admitting that many public services - health, police etc - are chronically underfunded is beyond me. What would you like to happen to British citizens who are also Europhiles Turkish, exile?
You call it a negotiation, I call it a cave in under EU intransigence. Nothing new there I know. Agreed, building our own is a daft idea.
According to the MP that has just resigned we tried to be involved but they said no. That Gallileo has 2 parts, 1 for satnavs and none military stuff. 2, for intelligence, security and military/secret stuff. I can see why they don't want a third country involved. As for Estonia, I would let the EU sort it as they are so keen to leave NATO and have their own army.. Take it this way Estonia was one of the votes that have made sure it was that deal and no other.
Opinions Well at least we may have something to sell someone I have absolutely no confidence in the UK intelligence by the way ... we have a truly shocking record of late
