So I went to school with this girl, our dads knew each other from school.

We where quite close until our early 20's. And where we seemed to all drift away from each other. Jobs, relationships, kids etc.

At the beginning of the year I message her to see how she was. We agreed to go for a coffee catch up.

We shared the odd message and things went quiet. She stopped posting on Facebook.

In early October I messaged her asking how she was. She told me she was very poorly with bowel cancer.

She died last Thursday age 30. She left a 6 year old boy and two girls age 5 and 2 with no mum.

Our catch up never happens. So that friend you've been meaning to catch up with, do it. Embrace life and grab every opportunity.

Sad news, Casual :( Hope you’re alright.

Strangely, I was thinking about school friends earlier today and how I hadn’t really kept in touch with them - my fault - and this has made my mind up to contact them tomorrow to arrange a meet up.

Incredibly, four friends of mine died on the same day this week, one had been ill for a long time, the others were a complete shock, all between 47 and 57 years old.

    Life’s a bitch sometimes.

    Sad news indeed...
Hugs Lammy man and Mr Casual

Hate it when people die far to young..

Old gits like me are very lucky compared to so many, another reason why I am always fine .

Like I always say Everyday is a good day while we are here ...have loads of great times everyone.

Casual & OLM - so sorry to hear about your recent losses.
Life is certainly cruel & inevitably finite.

As Horace once said "Carpe Diem".

    Paraphrased by Robert Herrick's 1648 :
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
    Old time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today
    Tomorrow will be dying."

It's a crap shoot. Keep them close while you can, as both of you are saying.

Excellent post Casual which summed up life with your eloquent words, I have re-evaluated life having lost many friends and close relatives over the last few years. And I have come to realise, rather late in life, how petty and shallow some other people are, and are not, and never were, worth the time of day. I have said my goodbyes to too many close friends and relatives to whom I have said 'we will have to meet up sometime' and of course never did, and now never will. RIP your friend and remember her with fondness.

I feel everyone's pain and I too have lost many friends and family over the past few years. You cannot just live for today and should also plan for the future even though it is unknown to some extent, but what you should do is 'seize the moment' and do the things you can afford to do and keep relationships alive at every opportunity as you never know what is around the corner.

You do mean this same day in other years?

    If not that's awful coincidence.

That's how I read it. Maybe I just didn't want to believe it.

    No words, OLM.

What a depressing thread. Condolences to Casual and OLM. That's unbelievable losing four on the same day. I'm 56, relatively healthy but have to remind myself I need to live life cos we have no idea what's around the corner.

Saying that I have met a few on here and it was hugely disappointing.
