    Bump:

When you go will you send back
    A letter from America?
Take a look up the railtrack
    From Miami to Canada

Broke off from my work the other day
I spent the evening thinking about
All the blood that flowed away
Across the ocean to the second chance
I wonder how it got on when it reached the promised land?

When you go will you send back
    A letter from America?
Take a look up the railtrack
    From Miami to Canada

    I've looked at the ocean
    Tried hard to imagine
The way you felt the day you sailed
From Wester Ross to Nova Scotia
    We should have held you
    We should have told you
But you know our sense of timing
    We always wait too long

When you go will you send back
    A letter from America?
Take a look up the railtrack
    From Miami to Canada

    Lochaber no more
    Sutherland no more
    Lewis no more
    Skye no more
    [3x]

    I wonder my blood
    Will you ever return
To help us kick the life back
    To a dying mutual friend
    Do we not love her?
I think we all claim we love her
Do we have to roam the world
To prove how much it hurts?

When you go will you send back
    A letter from America?
Take a look up the railtrack
    From Miami to Canada

    Bathgate no more
    Linwood no more
    Methil no more
    Irvine no more.
    [3x]

    Bathgate no more
    Linwood no more
    Methil no more
    Lochaber no more.

The Proclaimers blaming Thatcher for the death of Western industrialisation is a poignant reminder of the mindset of your average grievance voter’s mindset, which was all too prevalent during the recent referendum mania.

The best thing Maggie ever done was to smash the unions. Horrible bastards just want everybody to strike and **** what that means to the economy.

JC will be bringing them back just for the next Tory's to smash them again. Len McCluskey deserves a nice sharp machete through the throat.

    Happy St Andrews day

Actually it's got **** all to do with Thatcher. Not unless one of Thatchers ancestors was responsible for the ethnic cleansing that was the highland clearances.

You know, where whole communities were displaced to make way for the profits of the super elite landowners and the hereditary privileged.

It's about those ordinary Scottish folk being shipped off to foreign lands in horrible conditions and if they were lucky enough to survive the passage, making a new life in the new world.

Its a celebration of their struggle against oppression and their working class spirit that saw them not just conquer the new worlds but make those nations amongst the greatest in these modern days.

Its also about their love of their mother nation, Scotland because they know that their country is so much better than the cùnts who owned it then and own it to this day.

Is this going to be every reply from you now? smfh

The unions nearly destroyed this country. Winter of discontent? The public were largely for Maggie smashing them.

Oh no, people asking for a decent wage to do their ****ing job <wah>

Deluded ****s like you think Thatcher was a hero, you either come from a silver spoon background or you think you're special so decide to rim the Tories.

Thatcher would have considered you to be low-life scum for having 72266373748282 businesses involving weed. It's ****ing pathetic that you idolise her.

    You're a notherner too ffs <rofl>

What you saying? I should be a sheep and vote the same way as everybody else? That's the problem with Labour, no matter how many child abuse cases they cover up, or take us to war on lies, people will still vote for them because they're from the North. **** that.

Thatcher was a hero to many, maybe not to you, but she's the best thing since sliced bread, to me.

Wtf are you on about? Thatcher destroyed the economy in the north of England, as well as most of the non-London jobs. You are from Newcastle, right? So either your family were well off, or you just aspire to it. She would have considered you to be scum, but it's quite funny you idolise her so much.

Do you honestly think she would admire your current situation?

I come from a working class family. My Dad was a welder and my Mam worked for the council. My brother is a scaffy. What exactly is wrong with aspiring to be well off?

You know nothing of my background, Toby. You wouldn't be writing these things, if you did.

Maggie destroyed the pits. Who in their right mind would want to send their sons or daughters down the pits in this day and age? I know Maggie would be against Cannabis. JRM is against Cannabis and I like him too. There's not a politician out there that I agree with every single one of their beliefs and I imagine it would be the same for you too.

The song is about Thatcher era politics:

Where in the Heilins are the following toons?

Linwood no more - Glasgow suburb
Bathgate no more - in between Glasgow and Tweedtown
Methil no more - Good! Junkie paradise in Fife
Irvine no more - Glasgow overspill.

Regarding the Higland clearances it’s more misty eyed nonsense from our resident Scotch Nationalist.

The fact was that most of these Higjland communities had outgrown their villages and there wasn’t enough work going round to support ever growing families, at at time when infant mortality was declining sharply.

They either had to move to the Americas or move south to Glasgow.

The Croft villages had no running water, no gas supplies, no electricity and were subjected to the worst of the Atlantic weather system during the winter.

I bet nearly every teuchter who moved saw a vast improvement in their lifestyles.

Those towns are mentioned in comparison to the clearances. An act of wanten destruction and deindustrialisation that saw the whole communities devastated much the same as had happened during the clearances.

Misty eyed nonsense? Most highland communities had outgrown their villages? They had no running water, gas or electricity?

Are you having a laugh here? As it was the mid 19th century I'd be interested to know where these unfortunates moved to where they had all those lovely amenities.

    Do tell.

No cùnt had electricity ya fanny. They had survived for 5000 years in their crofts and Atlantic lashed indoor plumbingless villages. They were moved out to make way for sheep. Capitalism at it's inception.

Are you a clearances denier Barry? Shame on you.

Wouldn't expect anything less from our resident Monarchy lickspittle Tory apologist tbf.

Mindyesque failure by the way. <laugh>

Before we get into another 5 pages of Maggie Thatcher bullshit let's get the facts out of the way.

Maggie Thatcher isn't the devil incarnate. She is just an easy target. She is not the architect of the shambles this country has now become. Her party is, it's dogma is. Maggie was just the public face of that bullshit idealism. She is no different from who came before and she is no different from Cameron and now May.

Its the Tories pursuit of capitalism at any cost that's to blame. Its insistence that private sector is good, public sector bad and it's ****ed up economic logic where they punish the poor whilst ignoring the obvious tax avoidance of the rich.

But above all their greatest triumph was that they managed to persuade the English working class electorate that voting for them would be good for them.

Nae accounting for the stupidity of folk like Staffy though.

If you're parents own the council house the paid a lot of money into via rent and doing it up etc ...

    Then thank Thatcher

If we have a shortage of council houses , blame successive goverments and useless local authorities

If you have shared in BT, British gas etc

    Then thank Thatcher

Thatcher did some good for this country ...

She is also did a lot of bad things to working class communities .

The sale of council houses to people at a reduced rate could have been a decent policy if the Tories didn't ring fence the profits and refuse to let councils build more social housing.

The current housing debacle is a direct result of those policies . So not much to be grateful for there I should think.
