Talking of managers... and fish. Veritable mer-man Harry Redsnapper - former Admiral Skate, mulleted, gilled, very slippery- though curiously currently out of water, deep in an Austalian jungle; has threatened to return to the sea to captain a doomed vessel. Chilling. Is Davey Jones still managing?
Matt Hughes is sticking to his story that we did "speak to" Sousa. Interpret how you like. Also that we have to sell in January before we buy, in case anyone still wasn't sure about that.
The sell to buy thing is dumb, unless we're feeling really motivated to actually offload fringe players. Then I'm at least fine with it because we should be offloading fringe players regardless.
Yeah I read it as we need to clear space in the squad before bringing people in. We must be at the 25 player limit
Me too, if this is what we're briefing out then we're getting the framing all wrong. Anyway it's not really about transfer fees but getting rid of salaries. But it turns out not many teams want to pay old players more than they get from us. I know you know this already. *friday evening spelling
It's worth repeating just in case someone at the club reads this, as they seem to be late to the "paying massive wages to players that are old and bad is suboptimal" line of thinking.
I know this is an old chestnut, but paying the 3rd choice goalkeeper £80k per week is little short of madness.
Loyalty works both ways. He was on top form when he got his new contract and deserved it. I hope he gets the support here to find his old self. A genuinely great professional who has hit tough times.
Forster is supposedly suffering big time from a mental point of view - to the point he's often training with the kids purely to try and get his confidence back. It's completely shot right now. Shame really, but that's what hurling abuse to your goalkeeper does to a bloke. Take a bow, saints fans.
I agree that those idiots are not true fans but the bloke has to be tougher than that as a pro footballer. Also it looked like he had lost his form and confidence long before he was getting bad abuse from the crowd.
I would've thought that having SKD on the staff would be a huge help for him, you only have to ask a Sunderland fan about the abuse that Kelv got from their fans and yet he rebuilt his career with us and became the living legend that he is.
Forster just needs a fresh start elsewhere, imo. Just like Kelvin did when he left Sunderland. There's no way back for him here.
I have always thought that there was something wrong with Forster physically, but if it is a mental problem he needs even more support. Sometimes being tough just isn't enough....it can even make it worse for men. We gave him the contract so we are morally and legally stuck with it.
