It's more a case of old questions being rehashed. After the match all the hacks were asking why Capello played Rooney as a lone striker when it's not his best position, and both Carroll and Defoe were available. He answered that he didn't think either Carroll or Defoe were playing well enough, or were fit enough, to deserve a selection. Which is probably a fair answer. Tho' I did read a comment by some journo in one of the papers last week that it looked like Suarez and Kuyt was a more effective combo for Liverpool than Suarez and Carroll atm. Which implies that Carroll needs to improve some to become first choice for Liverpool, never mind for England.
Here, I can back Capello's comments. But some papers (tabloids) have interpreted this as being down to alcohol abuse...which it is not.
Yeah, but since when did the tabloids ever care about the truth? They're probably so gutted that England won, kept a clean sheet, and Rooney scored, so they have to find some other negative BS to spin to try and piss us all off...
Swarbs. Good point. Maybe its the reason why they are making such a big deal out of Postman Pat leaving Frank Lampard on the bench. They are itching for a story like Lampard and Postman Pat had a row and now Lampards international career is down the toilet. As for Andy Carroll, they've just reguritated old news.
Pretty much. Any decision like that is a win-win for the tabloids. If Capello had picked Lampard over Parker / Barry the tabs would be whining that Lampard isn't on form and is only picked cos he's a big name. If Capello had picked Carroll ahead of Young or Downing they'd be whining that Capello can only play 442 and has to pick a striker even when other players are playing better. No matter what the England manager does the tabs always find something to whinge about. It's one of the reason so many good managers don't want to manage England.
