Blatant racism on this board will not be tolerated. When reviewing a thread, I would ask myself; does the poster INTEND to provoke / cause upset or is it banter which is treading a fine line. That will depend on the action I would take! (You's have to ask Bucks and Ristac on their thoughts, but that's mine). I have deleted many comments in the past that could have been judged as being distasteful, though others would say its banter. I cannot remember many, if any outright nasty racist comments that were meant to cause distress. Question for all of you: Because this is a football board, should it be more lenient towards colourful language?
Would you like to clarify as to whether you find casual racism acceptable ? You seem to be alluding to the fact that it's not actually racist. My standpoint is quite clear in that it's totally unacceptable to me.
Just to be clear you’re referring to sandwiches there? They do get particularly offended when people want white bread instead of brown
On a serious note, I’ll be honest here... and i’m one of the least pc guys you’ll meet. I do believe some of the language used belongs to a bygone era. I’ve seen stuff written on here and thought, guys, have that conversation with your mates in the pub in private if you want but don’t post it on a public forum. Ie its banter but probably not appropriate. I think in general people forge relationships on forums and forget sometimes its on public show. I’ve certainly written a few things i’d rather i hadn’t. I think it was worse when we had glory and the Millwall guys hogging the board. Presumably it offended you back then jammy? Why now for the thread? I think if spilt/jammy had taken a less confrontational stance with the tone of his post it might have been met with less defensive responses, but I do think he raises a point as to where the line is/should be. Depending on the definition, I think the casual racism thing is a generational/social thing and i don’t judge people on it... if i’m condoing it by being here I guess i’m as guilty as any.
Just for clarification having read through. Is English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh a race or a nationality?
They're nationalities, so I can't see how calling someone like Cellino an Italian twat could be deemed racist By the same token how can someone saying they hate Muslims be racist? It's a religion not a race
And age and where we are from Northerners,Southerners,Gingers, tell you what,go a year without anyone calling anyone out and I will bow to the perfect world, sensative pc view.By the way,can you tell all the Muslims to stop telling me I can't drink beer in East London, and to stop killing people for having Christian views. Can you tell Diane Abbott, that all White people don't owe her compensation because we are White. We were made different everyone of us,and human nature means at times we won't always get on.
I remember reading about Phil Lynott being interviewed in a pub. A guy shouted across the room 'Lynott, you black Irish bastard' and the very PC interviewer was horrified. He said to Phil 'Aren't you going to do something about that (based on his fighty rep), to which Phil responded: 'Why? It's all true, isn't it?'.
I don't think there is anything such as "casual racism" - you've just invented it for your thread title. You're either racist or you're not. For me I abhor the denigration of black or semi-black (you can't call it coloured any more) people as much as anyone else. Maybe your article should have been more specific about whether you are referring to "racial prejudice" or "colour predjudice", because as far as I'm concerned posters on here can call the home nation nationals and our European "friends" whatever they like on a football chat forum. The other more "radical" stuff that you see from time to time has no place on here and should be removed.
