The point I was making is that although Koren isn't a striker and Waghorn isn't a right midfielder they can play in those positions, a decent player can adapt to the system. 442 - 451 It don't matter if you have the players that are good enough, then formations can be irrelevant. There not kids following the ball like a magnet, there intelligent players who know when and where to cover.
While i agree with that in principle Geo, as bad as the corners is the goal kicks drive me fukin mad when 20 players squash into 10 yards either side of the half way line for Basso's kick, talk about following the ball! Any kids game would have the coaches saying spread out spread out use the space. And in the words of Mike Bassett 4-4 fukin- 2!! The best acronym i have followed is KISS. Keep it simple stupid, dont complicate anything never mind football.

yes it's usually a win/win situation if he delivers the goals.. my only doubt is Sven.. new managers like to use "their own" players and Waghorn was a Nigel pearson player.. but it's too early to say..
Waghorn can have the same impact Campbell did for us in 2008. I believe that if we can hold onto him past Jan and Stewart hits form when back fully fit, we will make the play-offs depending on injuries of course. Knowing our luck things will click and then someone important will break a leg!!
This is our best team in my opinion: Basso Rosenior Hobbs Chester Dudgeon Koren Evans Cairney Brady Fryatt Waghorn Cam will obviously come back in somewhere, whether that's up front or in a 4 man midfield remains to be seen.
no offence to Mclean but Waghorn should be a different class, he comes with U19 & U21 international pedigree, so I would expect bigger things.. it's encouraging NP manages to bring in players of his potential.. Mclean had a big impact in L1 with Posh but I think we paid over the odds for him and let's face it he isn't going to score many in this league.... Simpson should have done better really, but there were rumours NP isn't fan so the writing was on the wall as soon as he missed that one vs Blackpool.
Looking forward to Waggy getting another run hopefully v Israel in the u-21's tomorrow, if he bangs another goal in can only be good for him and us.
Waghorn is completely left footed as is brady, but Brady is a natural winger, Waghorn is a powerhouse striker. Look at his build. Strikers are judged on there goalscoring ability and im affraid McLean or Simpson have failed to make us happy in that sense. McLean is a work horse, we love someone who plays there balls off for the team, but what else do he do? Nothing really, best game for him was scunny away. Thats it. I hope he turns out good as his record proves he can score but just hasn't happened, YET! UTT onwards and upwards
McLean isn't just work and strikers aren't solely based on goals. McLean links up with the midfield and Fryatt a lot better than Fryatt does. He creates room for other players to enable them to score goals. We play better with him in the team than without him and to judge him on goals alone is rather harsh. Especially considering he managed around 20 last season. Heskey has played for Liverpool, Aston Villa and England and has never really been a consistent goal scorer, yet he attracts these clubs because he works hard, is powerful and creates room for other players.
Agree with this, we saw last season how Mclean's ahrd work got the best out of Matty, the same way Heskey's work rate brought the best out of Michael Owen etc
As one of Cairney's critics I think he's improved 100% over the closed season, he's putting tackles in, some good ones in last couple of games. He seems more mobile and can play a lovely pass. Still infuriates but still young enough to continue getting better. I'd play him;- ....................Basso/ new loan.................. Rosey..........Chester..........Hobbs.......Daws ....â¦......................McKenna..................... Brady.................Cairney..................Koren ................Waggy.............Fryatt...............
for me i guess it depends on the state of the international players when they get back. but yes you could play McLean wide right midfield but i think that NP will go with the same 11 @ Peterboro. They did well against Reading and deserve another chance to start. Good weapon to have on the bench Waghorn.
last monday i watched Barcelona destroy Villareal 5-0 and Barca played 9 midfielders. whilst i know there quality is far superior the basics of the formation was simple. Pass and Move. Formations mean nothing as long as the personel are flexible. I dont expect City to do anything like that but rigid formations give my foot an itch and shows a lack of immagination. imo.
Bloody hell i wonder what you'd think if City lined up in a ultra attacking formation, ala Brazil (of old) and Barca, and get our arses handed to us. Of course formations matter ffs!. They're the basics of football strategy. They help the manager and team captain, so they can control what's happening on the pitch at nay given time during the match. Otherwise you might as well have unruly players playing where ever they like, rather than what they're actually good at. Also not everyone is as technically gifted as the likes of Xavi, Messi, Abidal, Iniesta etc etc and not everyone has their work rate, which is something you've forgot to add. It's a major factor why Barca are so good but not everyone has this. If everything you say is correct then how is it Italy have more world cup wins than anyother European Nation?
