I commend Spurs on a good professional performance last night. The Italians are always difficult to beat given their propensity to defend. I thought Spurs would not score against them but what a fantastic goal. Great play by Sissoko, great foresight by Dele and a great strike from Eriksen who had the sense to shoot upwards rather than along the floor. A few nervous minutes at the end but they held it together. Great teamwork. Sunday will be an interesting match and I hope Arsenal have an extremely difficult game tonight to wear them out but it looks as if Emery will be resting a few of the senior players tonight with an eye on Sunday's game.
I've done it on a few occasions. I was in The Shed end for the FA Cup QF against Chelsea, which goes down as one of my more reckless adventures. Especially because someone that one of my brothers knew recognised me and shouted "Tottenham Supporter" at half time.I thought my number was up but they were too busy celebrating to bother (it didn't last ). The guy who did it was a total **** of a bloke who went on to become second in charge of Surrey Police.Fairly early on in my dating of Mrs B, he thought he'd try it on with her by offering her a ride in his (daddy's) Ferrari. When she turned him down, he asked why not? Mrs B says....."I don't fancy you but, mainly because Brian says you're the biggest **** he knows." Thinking about it, I've been in with the filth against Chelsea a few times (a mate is partner in a firm with tickets for Stamford Bridge), Palace (can always get a ticket there due to knowing loads of people who work(ed) there), Fulham (natch) and twice at WHL (in with the Palace fans!). Imagine being in with the opposition in your own stadium!
I couldn't do it, mate. I was a proper **** in my late teens/ early 20s (I'm 29 tomorrow, ladies and gents, hope the presents are at the ready ), already had an away game ban for two years so if I were to sit with rival fans in a game I just know I wouldn't be able to keep quiet, probably get battered in the process and then miss the game .
In most things in life, I have 2 settings FULL ON and OFF. I'm not very good at moderation. I can keep completely silent or I'm non-stop ranting. Happy birthday! Best years of your life from now to 40. Enjoy.
My ex brother in law always got me tickets in the Holte end at Villa as he was a season ticket holder there. Fortunately most of the Villa fans are into their football and are a decent bunch, great for a drink afterwards whoever won. The worst bit was on the rare occasion that Villa took the lead, the whole of the Holte were giving it large towards me.
Cheers, Brian. I'm still happily clinging onto my 20s as it makes me feel young but whenever I look in the mirror I'm reminded that that's not the case; hair's thinned now to the point where I do a zero all over, beard is getting grey hairs around the chin area while the 2am kebabs have just ruined my physique I'm pretty much the same now, derbies and big games I'm full throttle but against your Cardiff's, Southampton's and Burnley's, I just enjoy a casual trip to the ground, say hello to a few faces and hopefully enjoy a decent performance without any dramas.
40 to 59.8 is pretty good as well, although the knees, elbows, rotator cuffs etc cause a lot of pain so you have to start drinking like you were 18 again, but, don't get me wrong, for medicinal purposes.
I'm a bit like RCL, football and music were my saviours from things in my life when I was growing up. I stood on The Shelf and went ****ing ape **** in support of Spurs. I remember the FA Cup QF against Liverpool in '80. After they scored, our support went flat. Not me. I was ranting and raving at people to get behind the team. Sitting down and not swearing at games is very hard work. I've cut out most of the industrial language as I mostly go with my daughter these days. The first game we went to, she stood between me and one of my brothers. He's as bad as me. She came home deaf and in shock. I couldn't sit at a gig. When I'm watching bands or football, I'm 16 again. It's a nice place to visit but I'm a more likeable individual now....I think.
Me as well. When I was down at the bottom I had to listen to Bob Marley's lyrics. "Misty morning, can't see no sun, I know you're out there somewhere having fun" Saved my life. Might be why I'm into black people so much, I probably have more black friends than white. Although a person is a person to me. I eventually got into kit cars, I spend far too much money on them, next project is to turbo a duratec, expensive, but it keeps the mind positive. It also teaches one to be a little patient, a mistake can be very expensive.
Did you realise I was quoting? And I did a version of the whole song for the Brighton game on 22 September! (Complete with a correct prediction of the score: a 2-1 win!)
Good age early 50's, all of my children were born from 53 onwards. Will have to fekking work til I'm 75.
