I swear he has twice the amount of teeth as the average person. At least they aren't the Firmino shade of the sun
Verrati vs Henderson. That was the difference. The ref did let a lot go for both sides though. Simply put we need more technical and brave players in the midfield. Id rather try out Fabinho and Keita more between now and January as we already know what to expect from Hendo Gini and Wijnaldum. Come to think of it, Gini only hides when Hendo plays the 6. When he is at the base, he takes up more responsibility.
Sending a team with Henderson and Wijnaldum to stifle their midfield was a mistake that was obvious even before the ball was kicked. The message should have been we go all out for the win because it did not matter how much we lost by. A 6-0 defeat is the same as a 1-0 one. A draw would not be much better. Only a win was significant for us. Tactical and strategic mistake by Klopp. When he makes a good move he gets praised but he has to take it when it fails. Salah was pish BTW. Didn’t contribute anything.
I personally thought the worst selection was Gomez at RB. We actually worked the ball well through midfield at times, but we struggled with a lack of width and played in to PSGs hands at time especially when they set up with 3 at the back, the space was down that right hand side especially in the first half and felt we would of faired better with a natural FB there.
Verrati was the player we hoped and need our number six to be, constantly moving, happy to recieve the ball and move it forward. The difference between him and henderson was painful to watch, we know hendersons deficiencies, but to have them highlighted so much was a killer. Keita and shaq must start getting more game time, something needs to give here.
That is exactly the result I expected when I saw the team an hour before KO. And PSG started the match the way we should have done. I'm miserable today.
Firstly, the result was about right in the end. I don't think we offered enough overall. The midfield is a problem for us at the moment, but I'm not going to pick out scapegoats Its more about who we don't have right now as much as anything. If we look at our midfield creative options we are thin on the ground, not because of a weak squad but more about availability. Ox...long term injured.......Lallana...fit again after a long time out but probably finished as an LFC player........Keita...missed the last 7 or 8 games and not match sharp........Shaq has been very good but can't do it every time..... I thought PSG's antics were pathetic if not surprising, Neymar is a disgrace but we already knew that. Also, I would ask serious questions about that referee. Many get conned by the diving and feigned injuries of Neymar et al, but Verratti's challenge on Gomez? ....and the nonsense surrounding the clear penalty was dubious. Anyway, Klopp learns from defeats aswell as victories, I'm looking forward to a huge night at Anfield v Napoli
I would never predict anything other than a win for us before a game, but in all honesty I expected us to lose yesterday - and by a bigger margin. We've been mediocre all season. We're still up there near the top of the PL because we've managed to be a bit more efficient in grinding out results, but the spark has gone. It just brings me back to my long-professed opinion that exciting, flowing football is far better than dull efficiency. We're very frustrating to watch.
I am hoping we keep our league form. Nothing could be worse than being joined and then overtaken by the mancs (should their form improve). I didn't think they could even come close to us but on this showing I am not so sure.
I don't see that happening, tbh. I think we'll probably continue to grind away. It's just that I'm expecting better quality than we've been showing, and I know it can be done. I'm not sure what the problem is, although there are several theories. Sadly I think that the usual posters with their usual scapegoats are wide of the mark and just letting their prejudices blind them.
I wasn't, particularly. Whatever line-up we've tried has blown hot and cold. I'd have preferred Gomez as CB and Trent in as RB - but I still think we'd have been up against it.
Not sure on the protocol but in the past the thread maker got changed after a run of poor results Keep up the good work on the prem threads though
If it is our usual temporary dip then it is not too bad as long we recover soon. Our home form has been key in our campaigns. If that falters we could be in trouble
