I'm quite often drawn into argument on this boad but I'm worried. . . There are fewer posts that have anything to do with football. . . and more that are to do with moronic sidetracking issues. . . One minute it's a loyalist three year old Ulster flag waving scumbag, the next we're all getting involved in handbag waving with the Jacks. Basically, I'm a bit worried about the number of posts that are worthy of any consideration. I had great hopes for this board but the lunatics are taking over. . . Might it be the case that once the international break is over things will improve. Can we all make an effort to simply not get involved with WUMS? Remember the seatbelt ad. . . Clunk Clink? How about. . . don't click when you know it's a dick?
I think there is an option to ignore peoples posts. i guess if we want to we can determine which posters are wummers and add them to this list. May not be much to read when that happens....but I may give it a try. I get tired of the same old wums over and over again. I think you click their user ID and then click ignore.
I chose to refrain from posting on such articles as posted by idiots such as the moronic northern irish clown. Having said that I really do not know what the best option is. Someone will always take the bait (I will at some point) and this give the originator some sense of control and satisfaction. Ignoring them but leaving the post up must get them a bit hot and bothered as they must've spent hours and days thinking up their inane post. To have it repeatedly ignored and see no responses must really get to them and just perhaps they will grow up or f*** off!
Sometimes I can't stop myself biting, stupid I know but hard to resist sometimes , once we get over the international break and the season starts up again, well I'm sure the quality of the posts will go back up when we have more things Cardiff City to discuss
I find myself in agreement with Master Betty here. I don't want to sound to pious but it's been grim reading recently. Having said that, I too am hoping that it will get better in a few days. I too am prone to take the bait but like a scarred old trout I'm getting wary of worms like the Ulsterman. I will, er, swim away from now on.
I think your memory of BBC606 is a bit rose tinted Betty. We had plenty of WUMS there, in particular a number from Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol and of course Ladyboi from Swansea (well he said he was but no one from Swansea knew him). And don't forget our Germany living pet WUM, ChesterWalshie. I think the difference is that on BBC they had to choose their language a little more carefully to avoid getting modded. I very rarely go on other club's sites but when we get offensive WUMs on here I feel duty bound to point out the error of their ways. Sorry, but that's the way I am. I like a good humorous WUM with no ill intention and will happilly indulge in banter with the WUMmer. The recent problem has been, as with the Irish idiot referred to above, the multiple personalitied cretin from Southampton and a lunatic or 2 from Bristol is that they are offensive, racist and simply incapable of indulging in anything close to reasoned discussion or humour. I agree that when recognised the best course of action is to ignore. They will get fed up and go and haunt someone else. The other option is to raise the issue with H Bomb who will take appropriate action - see Southampton prat. Bear in mind also that we are in a quiet international break with not much CCFC to discuss, apart from Turner's signing and Parkin's decision to stay. I have tried to get a couple of threads going on Wales and Dai Greene's gold as these are of South Wales interest but achieved little response. I guess normal service will be resumed by Thursday once the England/Wales match has moved on and we get over the likely WUMfest on Wednesday. I hope we then get enough CCFc related stuff on here, with good honest deabte, and a little humour, to retain the interest of all regular and some new contributors.
Personally, I think, to date at least, the way we've wanted this board to operate, it's been relatively hassle free (the Cardiff/Swansea thing will always be there)... until recently. If as mentioned above, this is due to the International break, things will get back to 'normal' but if it is isn't, especially as regular Bluebird posters are thinking of leaving the board altogether, maybe it's time to rethink how we want to go forward. From a users perspective, some of the wum threads are amusing but if they descend into arguments, I generally don't bother looking at that thread until I've read all the others. Like most, there are times when I bite (in the case of the wurzel thread, sunk to his level) but I try to stay out of it on the whole. From a modding perspective, I've closed threads in the past and have been slated for doing so. There are a few (supersaint is a prime example, who are gone as soon as they show their faces) but most others (..and personally I don't think there are that many) who's posts/threads stay open. The 'problem' I find is that you don't know how a thread is going to develop until its in full swing (the APL thread, for example, was 35+ posts in before the **** hit the fan). In hindsight, I should/could have cut it off there and then. Obviously my interpretation of certain posts will differ from others but as Bart said...you're damned if you do, damned if you dont. So, whats the solution? Where do we find a 'happy medium'? I recently had a PM from the board admin telling me the CCFC board is growing quite quickly and if we wanted/needed a 2nd mod to let them know. A possible solution as 2 heads are better than one? OR as bfb said, if you're not happy with something, let me know and I'll get rid. OR ??? thoughts/suggestions?
You're doing a great job H. I think the volume of offensive threads is something that needs to be monitored going forward. Not sure if we need another mod just yet but if growth continues then it should be considered - not wanting to steal any of your thunder H but the level of work must be manageable within the time you have available. If you are under pressure then another mod may be required.
A few points, fist is we seem to have a lot of idiots turning up on lots of boards at the moment, maybe a mix of school hols and this bloody international break. An intresting fact is we have one prem board that refuses to have a mod, they say they dont need one because they deal with wums themselves, its Fulham. I doubted it could be done but to date they have requested help once, the rst of the time they seem to handle wums by laughing at them. They dont seem to bite of take wums seriously and they dont ignore them, they sort of wum the wums.
I added quite a few to my ignore list....other teams wummers. Must admit it makes zooming through the threads a lot simpler
in reply to your first line: I know ...and living in South Wales, thunder is one thing I have plenty of seriously though, in fairness I don't really have a great deal to do as most wum's pretty much have their arses handed back to them "in house" so to speak... just thought I'd throw it out there I hadn't noticed the board growing and its possible any offensive/argumentative threads are stopping any new users posting. Its a Catch 22 that we can all have a say in.
See BfB quote below I think with the schools going back later this week things might change. With no or little league football for 2 weeks it's bound to make us all boared hence the number of silly posts. Keep it up H, I think you have things about right.
If your interested a lot of boards have gone quiet over the international break, I was on the Ipswitch board and it's dead. On the general topic of Not606 in general (WUMS, and other stuff) the Watford board have already got a long post going about it. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/81756-not606-is-just-not-606 They make a lot of good points but it is worring nether the less
The Cardiff board is and was on the old 606, a very popular board, we are going to get wums and for the most part they are welcome, we always give more than we get. The real problem here is the old "you shouldn't be in our league" stuff, it's very old and very boring and very difficult to ignore as it's a matter of principle. Maybe a kerb of that kind of article would do the trick, knock it in the head as soon as it appears. Other than that, wums should always be welcome to chance their arm, it's passes the time during the breaks and we're always better at it than them.
As many of you guys know, i had a running battle with one "Swans" fan in particular which either drove some potty and was a factor which led to their departure from the original 606 or people enjoyed it and got involved on putting the mug down too.. thankfully he/she's not on this board (but still continues to stalk me on Walesonline and twitter) and i've found it to be like the 606 of old on here at the moment, and haven't really encountered any of the other WUMs due to me not posting as much as i'd like due to workload getting higher. I did promise myself not to bother with them on this board, as I didn't want to dampen anybody's enjoyment of the footy debate and i intend to stick to that promise, i'm just going to bore them to death with my long posts as punishment for leaving the 606 unfortunately I think this will happen on any board to be fair and it's all down to the individual poster's discretion of replying to the WUM or not.. sometimes, WUMs can be shot down so spectacularly they never come back.. but then there's bloody others that remind me of the knight who wouldn't give up in Monty Python and the holy grail! "It's only a flesh wound, come here i'll bite your knees off!" Summer was pretty rubbish on the last 606 with all the kids anyway, the cretins are back in school now anyway so it should get better i'd imagine. So it's been getting unbearable then has it?
