    Luvgonzo.
A theorist called McClelland invented an expectency theory. This theory is in four parts.
    Expectation.
    Performance.
    Reward
    Satisfaction.
I believe and this just my theory that just using football as a example, that performance is what the other three are based on. A teams expectation is based on its performance, its reward ie silverware is based on performance, its overall satisfaction is based on, you guessed it, performance.
So in a way Kennys one game at a time philosophy is correct, its done to keep performances at the required level. Its performances that are key to everything else.

At the same time, however, performance is based on the other three from the perspective of the performer themselves.
e.g Is a football player satisfied at their club? What is expected of them, and is there a lot of pressure because of these expectations? What's the reward for winning and playing well, is it a trophy, or maybe even an improved contract or a move to a bigger club?
All of these things affect the player mentally and thus his performance on the pitch. We've seen players essentially stop playing for their club when they want to leave, and we've seen them freeze on the big stage, while others thrive on it.

Not sure if teams from Yorkshire are allowed in the Premier league these days.
