Sunderland host Barnsley in League One Last time out Sunderland drew at Walsall and Barnsley drew with Doncaster. The Black Cats welcome the Tykes to the Stadium of Light, having fought back from 2-0 down with ten men at Walsall. Sunderland could be without Max Power if his red card appeal on Monday is unsuccessful. It was Power's third red card of the season, leaving him facing a five-match ban if his appeal is dismissed. It would in effect be a six-game ban as he would also be unable to play in the Checkatrade Trophy game against Notts County even though it does not count towards his suspension - which means that as things stand he would not play again until after Christmas. Luke O’Nien or Dylan McGeouch could replace Power in the starting lineup. Third place Barnsley will pose a big test to Jack Ross’s promotion favourites, having been on a similar winning run as Sunderland. Jack Ross: “Our reaction to going two goals down is outstanding, not many teams will play that way with ten men and two goals down.” “In terms of our own preparation, what’s difficult is whether or not Max will be available, Dylan is still unavailable and other than that, it will be the same squad pending the appeal.” “I mentioned a few weeks ago that Luke has taken time to settle at the club, but that we were starting to see what he will bring to the squad. He’s done that time after time and he did it again on Saturday, and the circumstances of the game were probably made for him because of the energy and drive he brings to the team." “I’m pleased because every time he’s done that recently he’s grown in confidence and stature amongst the group, and importantly the group’s belief in him grows all the time as well. It gives me comfort that if Max’s appeal is unsuccessful, I have somebody that’s in good form and who is absolutely desperate to do well for the club.” Daniel Stendel: “They have lots of experience, lots of quality, They are very composed, they know how to beat a team. They have lots of quality, especially attacking, and don’t take that many risks because of their quality." “A massive stadium with a lot of support. We are happy for this match, but we know about their strengths. “Everyone knows if you win, you can be second, but if you don’t lose that will be good." Match Appointments: Referee:ANDREW MADLEY Assistants:Steven Meredith and James Wilson Fourth Official:Graham Salisbury Team Line ups Sunderland: McLaughlin, Matthews, Flanagan, Baldwin, James, Honeyman (c), Power, Gooch, McGeady, Maguire, Maja Subs: Ruiter, Loovens, Oviedo, O’Nien, Mumba, Sinclair Injured: Watmore, Wyke, Hume, Robson, Cattermole, Love Barnsley: Davies, Cavare, Pinnock, Lindsay, Pinillos, Bahre, McGeehan, Mowatt, Hedges, Moore, Potts Substitutes: Greatorex,Brown, Adeboyejo, Williams, Thiam, Woodrow, Moncur Injured: Hedges Betting Odds: H 6/4 A 9/5 D 23/10 My two pence: This is going to be a tough game against one of League One’s in form teams, but if we can manage to keep 11 players on the pitch, we have the ability to beat anyone in this league. My guess is a 2-0 home win. Ha’way the Lads
I'd love to be there watching us under floodlights, should be a great atmosphere, but have no chance of making it. I hope everyone, who goes, comes out singing. It's a full league programme with all the top 5, except Barnsley, at home so a win is important, especially as we have the toughest game. We could be a point off top or drop down to 5th so it's a pivotal night for us. Maja is the biggest worry, for me ... he looked half hearted on Saturday. Maguire made an instant impact, when he came on, and shook their defence up .... something Maja had conspicuously failed to do.
Think we will be right up for it and will win after a shaky start!! 1-3 to the lads. Fancy Max to bag a goal anarl!!! Bart
I would use Maja as an impact sub, leaving this one to the team that more or less finished the last game, maybe do the same with Oviedo. JR has a good grasp of the squad now and I will back whoever he picks to bring home the goods.
The current harsh criticism of Maja is a little deceiving. Im sure we'd all agreed that ove the last few games (incidentally the ones in which Maja has been criticised for) our main creative players have been largely gash. I dont think theres anything to worry about over his commitment and efforts but his contract situation maybe muddies the issue and adds a more interesting narrative than simply we've attacked poorly for a few games.
Daniel Stendel: “blah blah” tbd Quite. Allow me: "We haven't got the massive budget Sunderland have, so it' a struggle for clubs like us and obviously they're clear favourites. But we'll give it a go and see if we can get something from the game... ZZZZZ! ZZZZZ! ZZZZZ!
There we go again, a manager quoting our massive budget. d Do none of them take ten minutes to check what we actually spent last close season. yes we have a couple of players on large wages for this league which is what we inherited from the previous two seasons. I'm sick of other clubs enviously looking at what we had in the past which doesn't hold water to our current financial position Dim ****ers.
Thanks for the reminder This is from their coach Andreas Winkler: “They have lots of experience, lots of quality, They are very composed, they know how to beat a team. They have lots of quality, especially attacking, and don’t take that many risks because of their quality." “A massive stadium with a lot of support. We are happy for this match. But we know about their strengths. “Everyone knows if you win, you can be second. But if you don’t lose then that will be good."
Tough game, time to step it up and start looking impressive. We need to be for 3 points here Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
Walsall manager was talking about the big budget as well....you have 7,000 there and half are from Sunderland then you have to have a budget that reflects that. Sunderland at home get 30,000 so we have or going to have a budget that reflects that. All just common sense but clearly it's a bone of contention with other managers. Instead of bitching and moaning about Sunderland he should get on his own fans backs to get out and support their team more. More fans in attendance bigger the budget. It's not rocket science.....say "goodnight to the troops Gracie".
Just found this article where the writer compared Keiffer Moore to Josh Maja - it's ****ing embarrassing that the person is allowed to write anything when you see the bullshit!! https://www.footballtransfertavern....battles/tt-battle-josh-maja-vs-kieffer-moore/ Sunderland currently sit in second position having been one of the standout performers in League One this season, while Barnsley sit one place behind them in third. The Black Cats will be desperate to secure promotion straight back to the Championship under Jack Ross having come on leaps and bounds this season. Meanwhile, the Tykes will be looking to do exactly the same by getting the most out of their star players under Daniel Stendel. Interestingly, Sunderland take on Barnsley tonight at the Stadium of Light, so we took a look at Josh Maja and Kieffer Moore’s influence at their respective clubs. With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers… ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads JOSH MAJA please log in to view this image Josh Maja has been one of the standout performers for Sunderland in the current campaign, with 11 goals and two assists to his name at this moment in time. However, the youngster hasn’t always been able to show his prolific touch in front of goal as he struggled to have an impact last season. He only managed to produce one goal in 18 appearances for the Black Cats, so it remains to be seen as to whether he can handle the pressure of the Championship. Nevertheless, he is a special talent that has the potential to excel at the very top. TT GRADE: B+ KIEFFER MOORE please log in to view this image Ex-Barnsley chief Paul Heckingbottom secured the services of Kieffer Moore for £750,000 back in January of this year not long before taking over at Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, and it’s safe to say that the striker hasn’t disappointed at Oakwell. The forward currently has 10 goals and three assists to his name in 18 appearances for the Tykes this season, after scoring 13 goals and providing three assists in the second half of last season. The 26-year-old guarantees a consistent flow of goals at the pinnacle of the attack, which could prove to be the difference in the race for automatic promotion in League One, so he will continue to play a vital part this season. TT GRADE: A THE VERDICT please log in to view this image When comparing these two, it’s clear to see that Moore has been able to produce a consistent flow of goals for a longer period of time, while Sunderland’s Maja struggled in the Championship, and has already suffered from a dry patch in front of goal in the current campaign. The Tykes’ talisman will play a huge part in their promotion push and could even earn himself a move to the Championship if he continues to fire on all cylinders. Meanwhile, the Black Cats’ main man has been on fire in the current campaign, but he still has a lot more to offer at the pinnacle of the attack. Both players have already showcased their talents in League One this season and will only get better from here on in, but it’s Moore that has shown he can guarantee a healthy return of goals over the past season or so for Barnsley, which is something the overrated Maja couldn’t do in the Championship at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland and Barnsley fans… what do you think? Let us know!
Got to be mag that has wrote that. It's all over the place. He says Maja could go right to the very top and then right at the end he says he's overrated.
