The Walsall player had both feet off the ground, studs up and was out of control. He arrived at the feet of Power who had already committed to going for the ball. Power was upright and had every right to try to win the ball. It will be rescinded imo and he'll play there in the FA Cup. BTW, I think we'll take more there, on Saturday, than if we'd still been in the PL.
It's the FA. They will back their man. I hope your right but cannot see them rescinding it cos we are just a little club. If that had been a Manchester player, a London player or especially Harry Kane it would not even have been a booking.
Agree with all of this except the bit about it being rescinded... As has been said, the FA are assholes.
Having watched the re-plays and read the above carefully, it seems we were suckered once again by a combination of gamesmanship, poor refereeing and an infuriating lack of self control. We cant do much about the first two factors, but we can try harder to curb the third, myself included. . So apologies all round, especially to poor old Max, whom I hope will stay on (no pun intended), knuckle down, and become the player we all know he can be. Onwards and Upwards.
Walsall manager thinks Power's red card was "harsh" From the Echo: Dean Keates admits he would appeal the red card shown to Max Power if he was Jack Ross. Power saw red for a foul on Liam Kinsella in the 23rd minute, a decision that left Ross fuming. He will appeal the call and Keates says he thought it was 'harsh'. "If I’m honest, I didn’t think it was. Watching it back again, I’m not sure it was. If I was the manager of Sunderland I’d be appealing it."
And these day's they stand and shout at shop's or building's (don't think they are bothered) sad but true.
Watching that challenge a few times I think it's debateable. I wouldn't be happy if it was on one of my players and he makes the referree make a decision. I'd say borderline yellow or red personally. As for the Walsall player he wrongly doesn't get reprimanded at all due to getting to the ball first but should have been booked.. I reckon two yellows was probably the right call but Power can't complain about it being red. He if goes in like that regularly he'll regularly get sent off and JR needs to let him know that. That aside what an excellent comeback! Only the one point but it's about momentum as much as anything, keep grinding out results and top 2 will follow. Long way to go but i had you guys down as "top 10" at this stage with the team not really gelling until the second half of the season. It's easy to forget exactly the level of work Ross et al had to do in the Summer just to make the team competitive. ps. As regards Homer... I used to live with a Greek guy and we translated the first few pages of the Iliad into English (bare in mind it's written in ancient Greek rather than modern Greek so there's no easy method of doing so) which was entirely pointless - we were mostly just messing. It's meant to flow and rhyme really as it's all written as a long poem, an exact translation doesn't work at all so you need to try and reword with synonyms and rephrase most lines all the time to try and make it feel like it should. Hence my housemate saying to me "A good translation is like a good wife: It can either be beautiful or it can be faithful", a phrase I was sorry to gather he didn't coin as it was excellent.
Doesn't reflect well on us granted but once you cross out all the teams with trophy fans who have zero passion and clubs who have attendances more akin to League One we're only up against about 10 teams. West Ham clearly would be top if the Police issues were handled better down there and Burnley have the most per person in attendance (they only average less than 40% of what we get). Lies, damn lies, etc etc. Still. We are top, and that's not a good thing.
Thing is... if a Power didn’t try to win this ball which was a genuine 50/50 he gets slated for it. He had to try to win the ball. Was a millisecond from winning it but nit out of control at any point. It’s the Cattermole syndrome. He has been labelled since he came here and the refs are buying it. There were worse challenges in the game which went without a card
Agreed. As a midfielder you don't have to throw yourself into every challenge. His weighing up of situations is awful. The ball was gone by the time Power went into him.
Your spot on bloke,if it was a manchester, london or arry pufter player type, ref. would say arll reet lads what do you want me to do like. And that's before the kick off. That's the way it is me think's, fa are scumbags.
In the build up to the red card, after Honeyman kicked the ball up, up, and away; Honeyman and Maja -just standing around, watching. In the build up to the 2nd Walsall goal, Honeyman and Maja -just standing around, watching.
