Surely would only happen if a new manager was at this moment booking into a Southampton hotel room.

I have no problem with people not wanting Sam. There are so many reasons for not wanting Sam. But I don't know why anyone would want Moyes ahead of him.

We need to get rid of Ralph as well. He's clueless. You don't always need to get football or even like it to be a chairman, but you do need to understand what it means to the fans, and he definitely doesn't get that !!!

Those are such shockingly poor and uninspiring names, only Rogers slightly interests me.

Martin O'Neill would have, but he couldn't get Shane Long to score any more for Ireland so I don't feel enthused by him either.

Dont get why Monk is so favoured

You’re right, I missed that one. Thought he was out of work after the M’Boro job

The problem with Hughes, as I said since day one, is that we were doing him in a favour. After Stoke he was somewhat damaged goods. Throw in the fact that he's seemingly not someone who is interested in taking jobs outside of the PL, and it meant his options were limited. We offered him another chance in the PL, and he no doubt jumped at the chance. Consequently, he was hardly in position in demand a loosening of the purse strings in the summer - not to a mention a stronger say in the transfers which we did make.

What I'm hoping we go for, assuming will do sack Hughes, is someone will demand that the squad is strengthened in January. Actually, not the squad, but the first XI. Basically, someone who is in a fortunate enough position to say no to joining us, if they don't get what they want.

Someone like Monk (who is managing down in the middle of the Championship) or Bruce (who is unemployed and has had his fingers burnt at Villa) would not fit that. Like Hughes (or, for example, Adkins when Reading came along), I imagine they would just be grateful for the chance. Whereas someone like Rodgers (who can otherwise look forward to another reason full of trophies, and possible EL football in the New Year) or Big Sam (who knows his reputation as a relegation firefighter is valuable, and whether it's next week, next month or next year, the job offers will continue to come through from struggling clubs) would very much be putting down their own demands.

Regardless of who is in our dugout for the second half of the season - and that includes Hughes - with have to strengthen in January. But given how many times we've failed to do that in previous windows, the only way I can see that changing this time is if we have a manager strong enough to ensure that it happens. (Although of course the one difference this time is that Les is no longer here. So who knows, maybe that by itself will be enough to see us finally utilise a transfer window.)

I entered the black box, contemplated our situation, all our available options and data, then ruminated.

(I went to the toilet, turned off the lights, looked on my phone, then did a poo)

    (so, just like the board)

Fat Sam for PM, in a late bid to save the UK from relegation to the third world?

But would that mean Saints would appoint Theresa May to unite us in our hour of need? (unite us in our condemnation of her, that is).

I’d take Monk. Think he’s a decent manager, but we will see.
