Not sure if it’s true, but a customer was telling me yesterday that it’s now safer to walk around in New York than it is London.
Gibraltar isn't really an Island,it's part of the Spanish mainland, should agree to a sign over in say 20 years, like Hong Kong with the Chinese.
Of course they want to be part of Britain, but they aren't,so needs to be given back.Gibraltar only wants to be part of Britain for commercial reasons.Maybe it should just be a independant small country as part of the EU,they did vote to stay in.
Anyone know what's going on in the world today. Just been watching Tony Blair on Andrew Marr Show, and put a brick thro' the TV.
Not comparable. Hong Kong was leased to Great Britain for 99 years. Gibraltar was ceded to Britain in 1715. (not that I really care as it's a ****hole but the people want to remain British and Spain still have Ceuta in Morocco - but they could start by increasing cooperation particularly with a share of the airport)
Very comparable, the 99 year lease was just a way of stopping a war,if Spain was Russia or the USA we would have done the same, but because we beat Spain in a war,we in fact took it. Ps Hong Kong Island and Kowloon were ceaded to Britain and weren't leased,so Grandad told you wrong.
It’s nothing to do with geography of the place. Hong Kong was leased from the Chinese and always due to go back, Gibraltar is not - it was permanently ceded to Britain after some war in Spain about 300 years ago.
No you're wrong,Hong Kong Island and Kowloon were ceded to Britain, but after the second world war 1 billion Chinese said no more take aways and we will take it back by force,so when the lease on the New Territory finished we gave them the other bits as well, because we couldn't stop them taking it,if we wanted to. Half the world was ceded to us,we gave the rest back and we should Gibraltar. They voted 96% to stay in the EU,so they should stay in it,maybe as an independent country.
Nothing wrong with another war with Spain let’s go for it, do wonders for the Tory vote. And you’d not keep the island and hand back the new territories. Would make no sense. Also I hope as a patriotic little Ingerlander you were not suggesting we’d lose in a war with China.
