You’re right, Brian We had seen glimpses of a PL/CL player appear last season and his attitude, effort and commitment on the pitch was clear. But....... WTF has happened in the last month??? If he was an athlete with that sudden improvement in performance he would be named (Ben) Johnson rather than Sissoko..... in all my time of warching football I have never seen such a dramatic turnaround in performance level. Just feckin’ pray it doesn’t disappear as fast..... No money spent on new signings in the summer, but not just Lamela back to his best, not just a fully fit and exciting Lucas, but the creation of the currently best performing DM in the PL. now THATS a good window!

Poch in his usual modest style gives all credit to the players post match. But I have to tip my hat. His coaching methods time and again show how brilliant he is at taking a player and elevating their abilities. Sissoko is a prime example. He stands out for me as a player I now expect to see on the team sheet every week. Incredible stuff. Aurier has stopped going to ground and is making far better defensive decisions. Foyth is developing into a fine defender. Still some way to go but he has the best mentor to take him there.
Time was that Sissoko was a pariah for everybody now he's totally the opposite. I want Liverpool's head on a platter more than Chelsea's at the moment because of the form they're in and I'm fairly confident of results over the next 4 or 5 matches. The win over Chelsea. although good, was not as wide a margin as it should've been as it turned out because had we only had 3 chances and converted the three then all would've been better than having 9 chances and only converting 3 as is what happened. I think our rivals have peaked whereas we have still yet to show our best form.

I'm not sure any team can decide to increase the intensity Spud, form is one of those matters which can't be controlled, it either comes or it doesn't and in our case it's 90% arrived. Emerging from a break with a win is always good news for us because often we lose after one. I wanted to predict 3-0 to us because the last time we played Chelsea after a break we were thrashed 3-0 by them so I thought that as results had been coming for us(albeit through hard slog) that we might turn the tables on them this time. Sadly we conceded. Now, as for the near future, well this result has come just at the right time because it puts us in good fettle for Inter and I think we'll win it. Fortunately individual players, even after yesterday are aware of their weaknesses because Son said that he feels he must still be more clinical and he's right. There's nothing worse than ignorant players.
Great tackling, vision and energy, it was exciting to see. He has not proved all of as wrong. Some of us including Pochettino were in fact proved right. Sissoko can be the player we all want him to be, there is no doubt that Poch is aware of that. Confidence can be a wonderful thing.

The lads were back to great playing football , like best of show winners . Lovely to beat that dodgy Russian bloke who keeps it all those dirty notes under his Moscow mattress. I kind of agree with this and kind of don't. There are games where things go horribly wrong, injury gluts, loss of form, etc. However, patterns of performance under Mauricio Pochettino suggest that some element of control is possible. Traditionally, we start seasons slowly, we start to pick up form in November, play great over Christmas and are next to unbeatable in the final third of the season. That pattern's been repeated pretty much throughout MP's time here, that's very unlikely to be by chance. This season the players and MP have talked about changing that pattern and making a faster start to avoid being left too far behind when we pick up form. It's obvious that they've noticed that we need to up our effectiveness/intensity/win percentage at a normally weak point of our campaigns.That suggests that we have been going for 'soft' openings with the intention to finish strongly. Regrettably, we've lost out to 2 teams that have started to pick up points much earlier and that needed to be dealt with. However, this season we've eliminated the customary early season draws and had it not been for the collapse at Watford, we'd be right in the race, despite significant player fatigue and lots of injuries. Let's hope that it doesn't cost us our customary strong finish. A couple of additional first team ready midfielders would really help with that. Again, a factor in controlling intensity by avoiding overplaying players in certain positions.
Yesterday reminded me so much of the Pool game last season - an attitude that I had said to DH pre-match I hoped the boys would find against the Chavs. It was similar to the way we took the game to United at OT as well. Yes, there was some help from the opposition, but there is always a question that you only play as well as your opponent lets you - and we were all over Chelsea like a bad rash from minute 1. Is it possible to play at that intensity for 40+ games a year? Probably not.......
There are some games where the full press is mandatory and pissing about at the back is a bad idea. Usually, the big teams don't like it most of all. We shouldn't need to do it to Huddersfield, Cardiff, West Ham, etc. - 'Give 'Em Enough Rope' and all that. This team is mature enough in its make up to be able to play numerous ways, even when carrying huge numbers of injuries. We got away with a slow start against United but not against Liverpool and Citeh. Letting a top side take the lead is a dangerous tactic. Going a goal down to lesser teams? Not so much. Generally, being a team that comes on stronger in the second half works very well for us but Chelsea didn't expect that start yesterday, as United, Liverpool and Dortmund didn't last season. We could do it just a bit more, maybe?
Won 3 out of the last 4 against Chelsea in the league. The same as we did in the last 20. Good progress.

I think we just all enjoyed the full throated roar as we started that game. The crowd responded with their own roar. Suddenly we looked the best team in the league and you just knew we could beat anybody playing like that. We would all certainly like to see more of that and if we can it will put the fear into other teams and that will make the task easier. Remember also Vertonghen , Sanchez, and Lucas did not step on the field and neither did Dembele our squad is looking stronger now than at the beginning of the season despite the continued bleating about transfers. That's a game we will long remember although I hope we play well enough from now on that we wont.
