I'm in complete agreement with Ponders and A4L on this, I couldn't give tuppence if Mo Farah's dad was born here if he himself simply isn't of English heritage and yes I too am one of those who see themselves as English not British and sick to death of lefties accusing this mindset of being racist I have no problem with a controlled level of immigration as long as everybody is accounted for and in some way or another making a positive contribution towards the country and not here for the benefits
I'm pleased you understood where I was coming from I was beginning to feel as though I could hear a pin drop, with my good pint of English Ale
and the reason St Georges Day is never celebrated is because Labour, the BBC and all the other high profile left wing establishments are embarassed to celebrate it in case we upset others but it's ok for them to allow Muslims to burn poppies on rememberence day over here, I have 2 cousins in the army and one of them lost his best friend serving us in Afghan, its enough to make the blood boil at times
Did I imagine the fair, the morris dancing, the parade, archery lessons, history tours, maypole, massive England flag and pubs full of people celebrating the day? Must have, I suppose
I think the fact we dont celebrate St. George's Day is the biggest crime of them all (especially as St. Patrick's Day seems to be such a big event over here) I especially hate it if Im being classed as a racist though as I've many and have had many non-white friends for once though I just wish the Government would concentrate on its own people for once. Seems to me as though all we're interested in these days is poking our noses into other countries affairs i.e. Libya
It truly does boil the blood, Martinho. The immigrants flee their countries because of civil war etc. But do they go back when it all settles down and the offending tyrant is gone? Does our government even ask them, let alone tell them, to go home?
ok IA just for you I will change the section you highlited to the reason St Georges Day is only celebrated within the minority happy now? still makes the same point
IA I had you down as more intelligent than needing to nit-pick away at posts like your re-reading an essay you've written, you know full well the point being made. i'm not going to bother responding to your question because I know you will just follow it up with another similar question and before you then respond with "but you did respond to it by writing that response" I am making a point about the answer you provided not directly answering it
This is, indeed, a bone of contention to many people nowadays. It is sad to think that many of the original immigrants will face a backlash because the government is allowing floods of asylum-seekers in unchecked. The country is full, so of course tensions will rise. It doesn't help when the EDL are banned from marching but every other group, including anti-English ones, are allowed to do as they please. There is little democracy for English people these days - again, another reason for hostile atmospheres. It is no valid reason to attack minority groups, but it will happen as a result of our government discriminating against its own people. The politicians will have blood on their hands - again! Ponders. Shall we meet for coffee before the match tomorrow?
It's a beautiful thing, an envious attribute... to be the eternal optimist and persist on the pressing of the button !
It is the hot topic over here i'll let you know, what does it mean to be an australian ? I am not racist, and am a very open person.. it comes down to 'behaviours' and not what race a person is. Problem being if you point out the unacceptable behaviour or actions of anyone in a western society and they originate from another country you are classed as 'racist'. It sounds like a deadset mirror image over here, we are letting them in faster than they splash ashore. Tax's are paid, tax's are increased, then used to foster those who will vote.
At certain points in our family histories, I guarantee no one here is "100% British". The world has always had travelers, immigrants, soldiers who have invaded and settled etc. So at one point, your family would have been apart of the very thing you hate. Irish has also shown st george's day to have been celebrated. But see, you might not like this, but there are people who celebrate this day and ruin it for the rest. I remember walking around embankment towards charring x st and a group of white individuals chanting racist abuse and generally bring intimidating to tourists. As much as there are problems with certain individuals from other countries, we too have similar problems within our cultures. Hate to be vague- but that's life.
And the EDL march not being allowed to go ahead was because of pictures posted days before of them and their leaders posing with guns. Doesn't help that they also want to march on areas that are dominated by other cultures. My brother, who is a copper(boo), says the EDL protests are the worse because all they do is get tanked and start abusing people, putting a lot of people in danger. It's not a political party, it's a boys club who share one common hate.
Good points, well made. People will always feel hard done if they are treated differently. It is a fact of life that the English are treated as second-class citizens in their own country. Whatever one's view on immigration, that cannot be right - or fair.
