An excellent interview of SW by PD.
No need to sell players in January and likewise no funds to add to the squad. Clearly states that he fully intends to stay at NR1 and ‘finish the job he started’.
Let’s all sit back and enjoy what’s happening on the pitch and the terraces.
Obviously, EVERY team we play will be trying to be the first team to ‘ruffle our feathers’ and grind out a win, however they achieve it.

Edit - Bad news KIO and it seems like the 'Stowmarket Two' aren't going anywhere any time soon

This is the reality of the modern game. When did we last have a manager who was a Norwich City fan? I'd say it was Dave Stringer around 30 years ago, but he was an ex-player from the 70's (Duncan Forbes's quietly efficient CB partner). The best we can expect is a full commitment to making the club succeed. Both SW and DF have that. SW commented that DF is often in his office on a Sunday night preparing meticulously for a Tuesday match. That's commitment!

D&M obviously care for the club and are fans, which at times has got in the way of cold judgement. SW isn't like that. Hard focused realism and long term planning is his forte and we're now reaping the benefits of that. Also, for once we're going into a January window without a desperate need to strengthen the team. Perhaps a backup at LB and GK is all that might be needed with the squad depth and flexibility we now have.

I would say that SW not being a City fan is a positive, if a tough decision is required he's not going to be handcuffed to any particular outcome.

Which goes to highlight why the appointment of Neil Adams was such a poor idea.
Heart ruling head and that ain't the way to go <ok>

    A cracking article from DDF – https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...o-be-a-bumpy-ride-at-times-for-city-1-5792247
His thoughts after watching Engerland V Croatia - 'It turned out to be a cracker, with the late comeback from Gareth Southgate’s team creating a special atmosphere of celebration at full-time. However, seeing the speed of thought and class touch of elite players such as Luka Modric, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling reminded me of the daunting levels City would be faced with once again in the Premier League.'

Enjoyed the article with its mix of possibilities and probabilities over the rest of the season. The intensity of the training sessions in Tampa suggest the solidarity of this squad. Pukki's goals make him stand out, but they wouldn't have happened without the service he's received and team play throughout the squad is the key. The buzz word is synergy, where the outputs exceed the sum of the players who have produced them.

Take the third goal at Sheffield, for example. Zimmerman pounced on the ball to deny Niuhu and then instantly declined the simple options to make a difficult reverse pass across his body to find Aarons in acres of space, who then set off at full tilt, exchanging two 1-2 passes before making the spot on pass for the assist. There were no extra touches in that, but instant positive decisions as the move unfolded. That was full of the 'speed of thought and class touches' which is at the heart of our play in recent games.

That is also part of the total commitment our players are showing, the hunger and desire to make things happen. Swansea will be a test of that, 'for sure', but the game will also test our ability to play against PL level players. I look forward to that.

Our next 5 matches to the halfway point, with current table position after:

    Hull (a) 23rd
    Rotherham (h) 19th
    Bolton (h) 22nd
    Bristol City (a) 14th
    Blackburn (a) 11th

Blackburn away now looks to be the biggest challenge, but we've only lost once away this season (Sheffield United) and Swansea was thought to be the biggest challenge last week. Bristol City away could also be tricky, as could breaking down Rotherham and Bolton at home, but a decent haul of points in those 5 matches could see us in a strong position going into the second half of the season. Having glanced at other teams' fixtures, they seem more challenging than ours, on paper at least.

I’d a spare 10 minutes, so thought I’d rustle up a fixture list for teams in the top 6 until the end of the year.

    FixNew.jpg

Only 2 games where teams play each other, but plenty of opportunities for teams to drop points – INCLUDING us!!!!
Frank Lampard’s Derby have a local derby V Forest on the 17th and Forest are currently in 7th!!! <yikes>

Villa, currently 8th, could be a key factor as they play Boro, Leeds and WBA. Derby's next match is a tricky one at Stoke (not us, as shown). Ours is the easiest on paper as Blackburn (11th) is the only top half team in the final 5 games of the 1st half of the season. By then we should have a good idea of how we are doing. Forest and Derby, both at home, start the 2nd half of our season and given our current form, that could be a good thing.

Thanks for spotting the error and I’ve corrected it before Dave sees it and makes a comment!!! <laugh>
Edit - 2 teams in Europe have won 6 league games in a row. The other one is PSG!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

If you did all that in 10 minutes, you did well to have only a single hitch! :)

Marco Stiepermann certainly has his feet on the ground for facing Hull:

“We know how hard it will be to play against Hull. It will be a game like against Millwall, but now we go as a team who is on the top, we have this confidence right now and we really know we can win this and every game. At the moment we can enjoy this position until Monday evening, and then it’s the next game waiting for us – and that is an even harder game than this one maybe. All I can say is we have to look from game to game, that’s the most important thing. There are many games still to come for us all.”

And if we keep playing the way we are, that's many games to look forward to!

That's the 'Creative Accounting' button as used by NCFC!! <laugh>

So looking at our recent form over 6 or 10 games, we’re streets ahead of the ‘chasing pack’ and at long last we have a healthy GD and are only just behind the mighty Leeds and WBA in that department. I'll update https://www.not606.com/threads/lies-damned-lies-and-statistics.367638/ before Saturday

IF we can garner > 12 points in our remaining games this year, we should still be in the top 2 by the time the World sings Auld Lang Syne!!!

Edit - The CORRECT words and NO mention of ‘for the sake!!’

    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And never brought to mind?
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And auld lang syne!

Chorus.-For auld lang syne, my dear,
    For auld lang syne.
    We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.
