Trouble is the majority want something for nothing and yes us taxpayers are the ones funding it.
I was brought up the world is your oyster.I don’t expect nothing for free however what gets my goat is the leeches that are milking the system for all they can get without putting anything in.

Yep completely agree with all of this. Corbyn and his attitude towards Brexit is so frustrating, you can see the internal conflict exactly for what it is and just like the rest of them he's handled it badly.

Okay that's enough JGF. You've just proven you have literally no idea what you're talking about. Our trade deal with China is THROUGH THE EU.

The second we leave the EU we have no trade deal with China and we must trade under WTO rules. Just because we have products from China won't mean a trade deal exists <doh>

I'm more on the edge of 30 mate but fair enough. I have no doubt attitudes can change. But there is not a thing that Labour could possibly do worse than the Tories since 2010 in my opinion. It just shows most people's judgment is somewhat clouded when you can list dozens of horrendous consequences of Tory policy and yet not one positive has been achieved.

I don't mean to be rude RR, but this is again more tabloid nonsense. Yes these leeches exist, but benefit cheats and people coming over from the EU to take them? It's all bollocks mate. Yes it happens but it's an incredibly tiny minority. But printing that doesn't sell papers.

On the contrary I think this is something Corbyn has done rather well actually. He is very shrewd - I’ll give him that. He is keeping quiet on Brexit and standing back, watching the Tories tear themselves apart over it. A wise person once said ‘you don’t attack your enemy whilst he is doing a good job fighting himself ‘ or words to that effect.
Corbyn is in a good place right now - all the press are concentrated on the Tory in-fighting and Brexit. His party’s Anti-semitism troubles and accusations of bullying have all but faded away in the press.
His troubles would surface if he won a GE before Brexit was concluded - he would then have to see it through and then it would be Labour’s turn to tear itself apart.
Of course, if he won a GE AFTER Brexit is concluded then he will just blame everything his supporters moan about on the crap deal that the Tories delivered.

When I refer to internal conflict, I mean the fact that clearly he's not opposed to Brexit and has to pretend he is. Not that he is going through any kind of struggle as such, he's clearly perfectly happy to let it play out that way.

But you'd trust the current government who've actually spent more than they did and achieved **** all?

Since 2010 you and I have had everything cut. All of the social funding has been cut, police, health. We haven't had a real wage increase in over a decade. All the while the richest in society have got richer and richer. Doesn't that tell you something?

I don't know you mate but I'd guess you are the exact kind of person they target. Manipulate the media to blame immigrants and those who need benefits, when in reality there is tons of money out there that they refuse to distribute to anyone other than their own. They target innocent, most likely hard-working, normal members of society like you. And you fall for it. Every. Time.

    - They have spent what is not there. They've spent MORE than any government before them
    - It was a global recession. Not a UK recession. Every major country had a black hole in its finances. Every country has recovered their wages since 2008, except us.
    - It has been proven time and time and time again that austerity does not work. The alternative is actually to spend money and spend it wisely.

Don't let facts get in the way of your viewpoint though.

Coming from the guy who thought we already had our own trade deal with China just because it says 'made in China' on products over here!

Austerity wasn’t needed , far better to invest in infrastructure projects. They found plenty of money for quantitative easing “propping up the banks “
Corbyn is pro brexit , but can sit back and let the Torries tie themselves in knots over it because the are the party in power , best case scenario for him is election takes place after an unpopular brexit has taken place, allowing Labour to ride the wave of disquiet to win handsomely.

well actually that is what did happen … roads and projects , maybe not as far as some would have liked [ ROD... ] better then to have stumped up a few billion for that than pay unemployment as you get some back via tax 's .. and the end result benefit ….

.... and £millions bribing the DUP to help them after their disastrous election blunder.

    It was ‘selecive’ austerity.

I despair of the lot of them. None of them are fit to run a candy floss stall, let alone my country - or particularly something as crucial as Brexit.

Which is exactly why austerity was completely unnecessary.

It's been proven time and time again in many case studies that austerity doesn't work. For a country to flourish, it needs it's public services. It needs it's people to be educated, healthy and safe. We're already seeing the ramifications of it in London with the amount of crime being committed there. I'm not a fan of the Mayor there but he's getting the flack when in reality it's the lack of funding which is probably exaggerating this issue.

The Tories have probably set us back for many years with this completely unnecessary cost-cutting. All the while making sure their friends are protected and grow wealthier and wealthier.

understanding economics? ….. you don't …… one without the other doesn't work, I cant see explaining it to you will be of any benefit and a likely waste of time not only for me but for other posters that will have to go through the process of reading or deleting. below are some of about 2 dozen comments on Austerity

Austerity is a situation in which people's living standards are reduced because of economic difficulties.
    The austerity
package is needed to help to pay the debts left by the international bailout.
Spain has also introduced a tough austerity programme to bring its deficit under control.

How does reducing people’s living standards pay back any debts ? , and which people’s living standards are reduced? , making people who already have very little have even less makes absolutely no sense, now if you taxed high earners more , that would raise More and could be used to pay off debts , can’t see the torries trying that though , do you?

Why are you so bitter to Rob? I think he understands it quite well. Is it because you made a error on your China trade comment?

Ashton, could be wrong but I would think you are one of the younger members on here and not been through 7 decades of ups and downs! ?
Back in the 60's, 70,s and 80, S I probably made a similar comment ...back then from the 60,s the comment from our peers was you never had it so good! of course that was just after the war and I can remember coupons ...just! in fact still have some not used as one day you needed them next you didn't!
however raising money from taxes [ it has been proven because it happened ] taxing people is the government way to raise the money to look after the economy. we all know that ! vat income etc ..... In the budgets you get the chancellor say " I am" cutting base rate/ PA etc and that puts 1 million in the don't pay tax bracket [ all figures are hypothetical illustrations ] raising the threshold another expression ….
increases base rate tax by 1p = £xxbillion, that means every tax payer there are 3 or sometime 4 tiers pays the same.
increases 2nd tier to earning over £xx per annum means every tax payer earning over that pays the same
increasing the rate in the £ for that tier means everyone pays the same [ that is same applied to what they earn of course ]
by raising the threshold of the next tier and rate in pound means every one earning over that pays the same
the top rate of tax highest threshold could be something like £40k a year you pay the most almost half your taxable income... 40p + in the pound

so you want to tax the higher paid? ………… as a % of the population it is smaller than those not paying any so taxing them by another 20% or 30% would actually not yield a lot probably not cover the tax given away at the bottom level … and a lot would go offshore and pay very little! so a massive loss of income to the treasury!!!!
UNLESS there was a massive revision of taxation then there is no way to get more from the higher brackets of earners without risk.
A lot of people do not understand tax and taxation
I used to work with people that would not do overtime because their tax went up! they were unable to comprehend they were paying tax at the same rate for overtime that they got per hour after their 2nd /3rd shift of the week...…….. we had a revamp of shifts and hours it worked out we worked 2 extra hours every 3 weeks but got paid the equivalent of 2 hours pay at time and a half as compensation … the thick erjit didn't see he was working 2 hours overtime [ which was what company wanted built in to the pay ] he thought he was getting a pay rise!

So, May has negotiated a deal. It goes before parliament tonight (I think). What are the options?
    1. The deal is passed. Brexit happens next March on Mays terms.
    2. It’s rejected - now things become interesting. Either May goes ahead with a no-deal ‘hard’ Brexit or she calls a General Election - or she goes back to the country with a 3-way referendum. I guess - because I don’t know!!!!
