I'm not sure if their nationalities were a consideration, it was more about racial identity.

He wanted a Native American astronaut? I thought I’d covered off black earlier.

Yes he did, and no you didn't really.

You said this and I said you were wrong twice....

He wanted the first three men to set foot on the moon (no suggestion of a woman getting a go) to be one white, one black and one Asian. It didn't work out of course because the USAF were not quite as enlightened as JFK was.

    Over to you.

I've just re-read this and realised it says Native American. For some reason it registered as African American.

All too confusing, so take it away anyway.

He must have been on industrial strength painkillers when he dreamt that one up. Slightly shamefacedly as I don’t deserve this one...

There are two countries which have an elected monarch. What are they?

(Technically the Vatican City is the third, but I’ve decided to ignore the Pope)

Ashanti...of Ghana. I know someone who was related to the elected King of the Ashantis (I think)

EDIT. Only after I excitedly wrote that did I realise the Ashantis are not a country....Doh!

50% of the way there. If you mean Malaysia of course. The kings of the nine states that make up the Malaysian federation elect one of their members to be king of the whole country for a five year term.

Apart from Malaysia the other possibility is Andorra, where the title of Co-Prince automatically falls to the President of France.

Not technically a monarch though, Andorra is on the ‘almost’ list like quite a few others.

Free fact. The kings of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth were elected for two centuries before the Russians, Germans and Austrians tore the country into bits. But in those two centuries it was the true centre of European culture.

I have a feeling it is Polynesian...but not Tonga, but without googling I am not sure.

I don't know any Polynesians, but I do know the niece of the King of the Ashanti (shamelss name dropping there)

This place does always have a constitutional king from the same Royal family, but when one dies or abdicates a committee mainly of elected officials select a new one from the family, it doesn’t always pass father/mother to eldest son/daughter. And for a time in the seventies they didn’t have a king at all, at least not physically in the country.
