Good win, though the final score sounded very harsh on Mansfield. That crowd is just painfull. No injuries is nice to hear too. All told, a good night for us, and like the Stevenage game, another record broken with our worst ever FA Cup attendance.
It will be interesting to see the crowd at the Valley if we get a big side at home in the 3rd round. Certain folk on ITTV are predicting that “success” will see the punters immediately flock back. So Man Utd at home would see a 25,000 plus attendance at the Valley
Sadly that is true. I'm a bit old school and still hark back to the excitement of getting to the third round and gettinga a 'decent' draw. However, i's easy to treat it like that from far away. I was there for Truro last year, and caught the 1-0 home defeat against Huddersfield a few years before, and would have gone last night if I was in the UK, but a crowd of 1900 will damage the crowds in it's own way. It tells a loud story about the importance of the competition. Weird starting XI's, low crowds, a cold tuesday night all adds to the lack of interest. Sadly the magic of the Cup seems to be going the same way as Charlton Athletic. Interest has waned until Wembley is on the horizon, and neither one seems to have anyone at the top willing or able to turn things around. Sad state of affairs if you ask me.
There was an injury, Pratley tweaked his knee and will be out of Saturdays game. The final score was very harsh on Mansfield and with better finishing they could have scored three or four. CJ Hamilton should not be playing in League two.
Makes sense to me Dick. I'm not sure if away teams would agree though. As they get 50% of the gate, they may feel this will cost money. I'm sure dagenham complained when we dropped the prices years back, and I'm sure the likes of Truro would be less than happy about recieving a tiny pay off for playing in front of a huge 5000+ crowd.
That is very sad. Our lowest ever home crowd at the Valley for an FA Cup game... not by a handful, but by over 1,700. Duchatelet has no shame. Should never have interfered with an industry he knows nothing about. Supreme arrogance.
I don't know if it would sell out, but I do know that any decent Premier League side would destroy even our strongest XI so brutally you'd never be able to show it on TV before the watershed. We would get the hiding of all time. Not that I think we'll get that far. Doncaster will dump us out of the Cup in Round 2, in front of about 4,000 fans if we're lucky.
Millwall away in the 3rd round please. A reward for the real fans and connoisseurs. The New Den is still my favourite away trip
@Clb74 loves a bit of wind round the old willow … he is proper Charlton … by that I mean a bit strange!
