I recently wrote this article giving my thoughts on each of Liverpool's transfer signings so far http://bloglfc.co.uk/liverpool-summer-signings-evaluation/ Was wondering if I could get your guys thoughts on it. I feel even though we spent over the odds on the likes of Henderson, the likes of him and Adam could compliment and work together perfectly and if Enrique keeps up his good form he could definitely be the bargain of the summer so far! Feedback and ideas always appreciated
Excellent article! I agree with you regarding Enrique. If the £6M fee is true, he's got to be one of the best pieces of business this summer. He's strong, quick and has solved our left-back position. Excellent value for money and we've got an excellent player.
Thanks a lot And yes, I'm really surprised that no other clubs showed such a desire to get Enrique, he would have been the perfect solution for a team like Arsenal in my opinion. It's very rare that you can get a a full back with the perfect balance that Enrique seems to have. His nickname of 'the Bull' seems to be living up to expectations as we have already seen he has a strong physical build and is extremely hard to get past yet offers such natural width and skill in attack. Him and Downing have given us something we haven't had since the departure of Riera who despite wasn't spectacular gave us natural width and incidentally that season was one of our best in recent years.
If you believe the media then the £20 million for Jordan Henderson was too much. However if you believe the person thats in the know and thats Damien Comolli whom has said that the £20 million quoted by the media is way off the mark, then he may turn out to be value for money. Liverpool made two shrewd signings (Adam and Enrique), I believe that those two along with West Broms purchase of Shane Long have to be the best signings of the summer.
That was only 1 game though. Sunderland have since dropped out of the cup and lost at home to Newcastle. We'll see who's the best come the end of the season. Who can say after 3 games?
Woodgate for Stoke if he stays fit will be the signing of the summer in my opinion. Problem is he probably won't stay fit...
It's going to be interesting watching you play this season. My own view is that, whilst you've spent a lot of money, you haven't really strengthened that much, and that a lot of your new players are average, at best. I remain to be convinced, and will readily admit I'm wrong if that proves to be the case. I certainly don't think you can judge yourselves by having beaten the Gooners, as they are a pale shadow of what they used to be, and are not going to finish higher than 6th this season, and could finish even lower. I think this is going to be Wenger's last season in charge of them. 4th & 5th will be contested between our two clubs, so the real crunch match, for each of us, is going to be the two games that we play each other. I think United, City, & Chelsea will occupy the top three slots, in that order. Stoke and Sunderland will be the stalking horses, this season. There are going to be some shocking score-lines to look forward to, that's for sure.
Not really, if you read it you'll see why I think all the signings will be good with my reasons Although he's not an exciting and spectacular player in attack he does his job great and is a very tidy player in midfield.
Yes, and at you suggesting Henderson isn't a good signing, you obviously haven't been watching him lately.
That's what everyone outside of LFC is saying, but then if you don't watch us every week then I cannot make you understand your mistake in thinking that.
The intial signs are that the squad has been improved by the new signings as they have met needs in the squad and/or have improved our options. To that extent they are good. As for Spurs and Arsenal then they have yet to even demonstrate that their buys will give them a lift. It therefore ill-becomes their supporters to criticise our signings when their clubs have performed so poorly. It really does beg the response - look to your own problems. We will see by Christmas if our optimism is well founded. So far so good
So far, we've played United and City, the two teams who are going to dominate this season. And we did so without being able to use either Parker or Adebayor. I am confident that we are better than you and will finish higher this season
