Best three animated films Spirited away Kubo and the two strings Up Special mention to... Ghosts in the shell WallE
Spirited Away is a terrific film. All the Japanese animated films that I have seen are fantastic, much superior to Western populist guff.
Nothing ****ing happens, in the entire film. And it takes hours. Got taken to see at as a kid, at the Odean Leicester Square. Never been so disappointed in my life.
Not really, I learned a lesson in pessimism that day and have spent most of my life anticipating the worst; hence never disappointed.
When The Wind Blows is excellent. Very moving. They hardly ever show it at all on the telly, when you consider the dross films that get repeated all the time it's annoying.
When the Wind Blows was a proper choker, especially where he goes to move his dead missus. The Snowman is often the calm point on Christmas Day, kids had it on DVD and watched it on a loop for months at a time Watership Down - saw it at the cinema when it first came out. That black Efrafa (?) bunny gave me the heebie jeebies and I confess to shedding a tear when Hazel karks it at the end. Sorry for any spoilers but the film is about 40 years old so chances are you've already seen it or know the coup I used to like a lot of Anime but went off it after a while, closest I get these days is the odd bit of Hentai alien tentacle porn.
The bird can't even think about Watership Down without getting sad, great fun to break into "Bright eyes...burning like fire" and get told to "Shut the **** up!".
