They should certainly be better trained in hand to hand, should be compulsory and to a high standard.
Well both would be sensible, sticks at least. Problem is you can't walk into every situation with a stick out it just looks daft.
Cops getting a kicking is usually involving gangs of twats. Pull a gun and the appetite for violence would soon recede.
They are arming themselves now. Times have changed and it's not fair to expect the police to have the odds so heavily stacked against them. Arm them and stop ****ing about with the ****ing idiots.
Look at the US though, arm police and the idiots will get themselves guns and that wont end well. I like that we have armed police as backup but not as a general rule.
I think it very much depends on your 'natural reaction' at the time ... my missus always urges me not to get involved because of what might happen to me and what that might mean for her, the kids, etc ... but I've always hated any kind of bullying or unfair fight and would find it difficult to do 'nothing' ... When I was in my 20s one of my cousins and me were walking through the city centre after kick-out time when we happened on a bloke and his missus at a taxi rank having a heated row - lots of people in the queue just laughing at them - she was screaming like a banshee at him and eventually he just full on punched her in the mush, knocking her down - people in the queue didn't want to get involved but we stepped in and tried to reason with him - he started swinging at us but was so pissed he couldn't lay one on either of us - she gets up off the floor, she's as pissed as him it turns out, takes her shoe off then tries to whack both me and my cousin over the head with the heel ... with that we left them to it ...
I'm thinking of the police here mate. Why anyone would join the police now is beyond me tbh. Lads have always fought but when the police came, we ****ed off. Hitting a copper was a no no.
I was Military Police back in the day, it can be a tough job but I don't agree with Civ Pol being armed.
I know 3 police men . Not one if them wants to carry a gun . The reason is , if they have a baton and the offender gets it off them , they will possibly get hit with that . If they get hold of the Gun .....
My stepdaughter has been going to Police cadets for the last 4 years and decided to go into a career in the Metropolitan police. She is a bright girl and a lovely girl . It is a bit scary thinking that she may be patrolling London and have to face violent armed lunatics but it's her choice. If she is just seen as a Uniform by society and not deserving of empathy if she gets hurt or killed like some on here have expressed, then that is very concerning as human beings.
Not sure a loaf of french bread would be more effective than a taser tbh ... or are you suggesting that a picnic might just calm the situation
