<applause> you've done some research without jumping in face first.

There's a few theories. But the common factor is he was indeed **** scared of the yanks coming in.

    So they all died anyway.

thats actually what shocked me more. you didn't know about it.

I've always sort of followed the cult stories, just my interest in the psychology of brain washing and how vulnerable the human mind can be, amazed i missed this one.

How longs a piece of string? Has parallels with religion wouldn’t you say and people willingly allow there families to be indoctrinated.

I had to think about your comment, an immediate thought could be is it has nothing to do with religion in the true sense of the word, but then what is religion itself, a human form of self discipline and control that adheres to a way of behaviours.

Jim Jones along with Waco are extreme forms, ones not often liked by government powers - after all who the hell in their right mind sends tanks in! But without sounding crass it was job done in the authorities eyes.

People are vulnerable in life, they may have either become detached from their families or are searching for something that dosen't exist (cults i'm referring too) - maybe it is just a friendship or company of a group, that they don't have outside of that domain. Individual psychopaths playing on your weaknesses in life.

The brain is repetitive it has to have a routine, it's a bit like asking people to stand on both sides of a tube station escalator, all hell breaks loose, the brain can only process so much information at once. People like Jim Jones know how to prey on all of that, however, inevitably it eventually all goes wrong and you end up with mass deaths as you did with Kool Aid and Waco

Bit like the not606 cult, you cannot leave, you cannot sign out, you are a captive forever, i decide your fate <whistle>

They didn't even use Kool Aid, funnily enough. They went for a cheaper alternative, because every penny counts when you're poisoning everyone, apparently.

Well thought out post, “what is religion itself”? An invented indoctrination to control the masses, hence if you rebal you fear the wrath of an unseen being. Generally in my experience the people more susceptible to this are people who are on their uppers and have nothing in their lives to replace alcohol, drugs and other abuses that life inflicts on the weak.

Routine is what makes us tick but surely this is another indoctrination of another kind. Man from day one has questioned his existence and his place in the universe. These human attributes have been exploited by those who wish to control.
