So if the game is stopped for every bit of physical contact so the ref can scrutinise it and decide if it's excessive we should get a good 10 minutes of action in a 90 minute game. However, I'm sure it will please those who prefer video football to the real thing.
That's what I thought G was meaning which doesn't make sense. The game will still be officiated as it is now and as if VAR didn't exist - I would have thought anyway. VAR isn't a substitute for officiating, like the addition of an extra linesman, it's supposed to be an added aid.
I would agree. it's an assistant not the arbiter we might as well remove all the officials and rely on cameras and box refs totally if the on field officials don't officiate.
Do we know how it will be implemented yet? Ie cricket so many challenges. To claim a pen or offside etc and will they be allowed to challenge refs decision like they can in cricket with a decision of out/not out. Also can ref off his own back challenge a decision or does it have to come from teams? Seems I've created a lot of possible rules before it has started lol
Not sure tbh. The games that have used it so far, like that farcical one of ours, have been trials. I think the VAR ref can call something the ref has missed or the ref on the pitch can ask VAR for clarification in some situations like penalties. I think there are 4 things it will be used for - can't quite remember. The biggest problem will be the time it takes to make decisions imo.
I didn't say they wouldn't flag. I said they wouldn't flag for close calls; ie like Fulham ruled out goal. Flagging means the game stops (subject to the refs whistle) and you can't carry on from where it ended. They'll let play carry on and the ref in the stands watching var will let the ref know. It's what happened in the world cup. Plus, it's common sense.
Ok I am clearly talking about holding on corners. We all know what holding goes on and exactly what I am talking about .
Need to bring in a stop the clock rule for the ref. To not only completely cut out all time wasting, but to prevent VAR stoppages being an issue too
