But only for safc fans, Beckhams halfway goal was what,,25/26 years ago? His free kick was yonks ago, Sending off 98? Point being, everyone remembers them. He was part of a team and won 6 prem titles under the great SAF, then went abroad. No one can ever deny he was asuperstar in football terms, even if not being the greatest player.
Beckham was in a very good Utd team that allowed him to express his strengths without his weaknesses getting too badly exposed. But put it this way, if he looked like the arse end of a donkey as was playing for Boro at the time, nobody would batted an eyelid.
Yeah Exactly, Beckham was for Man Utd fans, what the media built him up to was probably the reason this thread was started and why you can't see past your beer can. He was a Manchester United footballer that played for England.. Whoop ****ing ee
I'm not knocking them. Fair play to the guy, he was given good looks and used them to maximise his career. What I'm saying is that if he was a munter and played in an average side, he wouldn't have got anywhere near the recognition that he did.
Read the thread mate, loads saying it's because of his looks etc. He was a mighty fine football player to boot
Yeah possibly. Fair play to Beckham, he came along at the right time in the right team. He also contributed a lot to England. Got nothing but good things to say about the bloke to be honest.
Came along at the right time It was all down to the legend that is known as SAF, a man who had the balls... You'll win nowt with kids you know... Daft ****s

To say "if Becks played in an average side..." is a bit of a moot-point in my opinon, he didn't play in an average side because he was a good player that played for the best side under the best manager England - arguably the world - has seen. Was he the best at Utd? **** no but he was still worthy of his place in that XI, as he was in the England side, as he was in the Madrid side and so on. His looks boosted his global reputation and star power but it was his skill with the ball that kept him at the top level for so long.
He did come along at the right time in that Utd team. If he was in it now, he'd probably not achieve 1/4 of the things he did.
