And the great Rory Gallagher - the man who inspired Brian May, Slash (though I wish he hadn’t) and countless other guitarists ....
Sorry if I’ve bored you, but I was asked There are loads more I could have chosen ..... I was once asked to list the 5 most important songs which I related to ..... After about 2 weeks, I knocked the list down to 25 Maybe we should do something similar, though I think 25 each might be a tad long winded
Prince - Alphabet Street, Darling Nikki, Sometimes it Snows in April. Blondie - Rapture, Union City Blues The Jam - David Watts (I know it’s a kinks song) Madness - Embarrassment; Shut Up! Bryan Adams - Summer of 69 Bob Marley - Buffalo Soldier These would be in there somewhere.
Good choices, Fats. Always loved Madness - My Girl, as it just seemed to sum up the whole “relationship” thing (“sometimes I like to stay in and watch tv on my own”). Brilliant song. My problem is that I could choose loads of songs from acts as diverse as Beatles, Stones, Fleetwood Mac (original and later line up), Genesis, Yes, Van der Graaf Generator, Gary Moore, Bob Marley, Love, Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder ....... I just love music and the memories it can bring .....
At about 10pm on the evening of my sister’s wedding. I slipped into my orange suit, silver and gold platform boots and strutted onto the dance floor to this tune. My sister always used to moan that I wouldn’t dance with her at a family do. She’s stopped asking since!
A year or two ago I was introduced to the music of the Decemberists (via Offa Rex) by a kind soul on this very thread. I've since obtained most of their career output on vinyl and never been disappointed. More pleasure was provided when last week Mrs Greensaint and I celebrated our silver wedding by attending their live show at Bristol O2. Good show. Anyone that's been to one of their gigs will know they have a unique encore song "The Mariner's Revenge Song" a version shown below. Though I usually shy away from audience participation I confess to joining in with a good scream. If inpatient note the whale appears around 6.25 on the clip.
I've followed them for a few years now and the original recording from the Picturesque album was recorded in one take around a single microphone apparently, pretty impressive really.
Alela Diane Saw her on Sunday down in Bexhill on the coast. This tune got me into her some years back from a compilation that I got free with the Word magazine. Anyone remember that?
Haven't been on here for a while so apologies for not sticking to a theme is there is one! I've always loved the Go-Go's and this was the lead track from their final album, co-written by Billie-Jo of Green Day. I think it's the best thing they did and even better is how great they all look in the video. Belinda in pink leather, Jane with green hair, Kathy simply the hottest rock chick ever.
Another year closer to becoming a professional old person.. ...(I don't really believe in all that astrological **** !...)
