I would preumse there is some low level of this that goes on constantly.

spot fixing of one sort or another. I mean we all know that moyes to Utd was leaked for betting the day before it broke for example

I would presume it must be more than 5 lads putting 50 or 100 quid on the thing.

It'd be quite odd if the amount is massive barring of course the worst case which is the 3minute sub thing.

If he were to be found to have come on then faked injury or whatever to be off within 10 mins etc... thats the worst case

    but who knows.

Not sure there’s even a market for being substituted tbh, unless it was specifically requested. I remember that game as well, iirc I even commented on it on here, as I’d watched the pre match and he barely warmed up then did his hammy the first time he ran at pace. That’d be a beauty if it was true though <laugh>

According to the precedents set Sturridge should be looking at a £20k - £30k fine

    Even that is a #joke

Gambling on this kind of thing should be illegal in the first place

A football player can make a phone call looking for a place to rent, or book a plane ticket, and suddenly they're being investigated for "insider trading"

there are a number of different precedents. i couldn't say what he would get until we hear the evidence.

Barton is a bad example as he was really on the high end of everything. FA hated him anyway.

According to the law, a man is deemed innocent until it's proved otherwise. Daniel Sturridge has something to say, we are all ears.

Barton actually made over 1000 bets himself, nothing to do with Sturridge who's being charged with saying he was going on loan to West Brom which other people then bet on

IMO serves the bookies right to allow betting on such a thing

Allowing bets on something that isn't done "in public" like the actual games is IMO just a license to launder money

He isn't being accused of a crime, it's an FA charge and with those you are presumed guilty unless you can provide overwhelming evidence to the contrary

a 1000 bets is not a huge amount for a "gambler" but yes he should have know then clear rule and its a clear breech of it.

He got 6 years IMO some of that is cos the FA couldn't wait to hammer him personally.

So... your example of a fine was the lower end of the possible fines. If we believe sturridge didn't bet ok but the charge says otherwise. He is accused of not only providing info. there are cases where the fine you've said and a warning is given and there are cases where similar acts have got a 4 month ban.

who the hell knows with the FA.

I would agree though that allowing betting on things that are "events" and not open to public scrutiny is indeed extremely dodgy. Its allowed though.

we all like to speculate on who's next for the sack. The temptation to lump on when you know its coming must be huge around clubs.

Yes totally agree. The FA can do what they like. If they feel like sticking it to LFC they will give him an exact ban to the end of season. This will then throw our January planning totally out the window and an origi or solanke will then be kept... cos we won't be able to buy anyone in January really.

It relates to January 2018 - so I just checked, he didn't play any games or make the bench at all for us so it can't be the sub thing. Apparently there were 53 reported breaches in the last couple of years only a few high profile like Barton and Demichelis.

On a slightly different note, I would love governing bodies to look into betting and sport in general.

I think its disgusting how betting and sport are synonymous. Can't watch a premier league game without every advert being a betting one, then they change to live bets on that specific game and flash it up right as they kick off.

Totally agree, its aimed at squeezing more pennies out of working class folk. And the legal disclaimer at the end....'Please gamble responsibly' <grr>

Fully agree. I will add that clubs shouldn't be sponsored by betting firms either, seeing their names plastered all over kits is just wrong. Not as bad as those who have betting sponsors on their main kit but our training kit sponsor is BetVictor - I'd like to see it outlawed.

Totally agree. The ads on football are disgusting in that bit might as well be selling drink to alcoholics, drugs to junkies or candlesticks.

They have to be banned. I find those peddling them by taking the money.. well lets say disappointing to put it mildly.

Motty doing them is like Attenborough advertising lion hunts

I've no interest in this type of thing and I don't really care what he has done. He gets a fine and pays it job done.
