I think that it was a hard fight to score and I'm not surprised that the judges all had different scores. It would've been very risky to go to points for either fighter.
Usyk grew into it and definitely started to take over, but the turning point was probably the punch at the death in the 6th.
Bellew got sloppy and it rattled him. He wasn't the same after that and a series of body shots really seemed to take it out of him.

Bellew even said himself he thought he was behind so started to go for it in the 7th. How can you be up by 3 rounds and think you are behind after 6 rounds? Maybe he was concussed from really early in the fight.

As you say if it did end up going on for longer Usyk would've just kept winning rounds so would probably have won on points anyway.

I'm not sure Bellew knew what day it was in that interview, to be fair! <laugh>
I had him down for the 2nd and 3rd and you could make a case for the 1st and 4th, at a push. Probably even rounds though, for me.
5th, 6th and 7th were Usyk's and the 8th was going to be, but I doubt that his corner would've been happy to risk it against a home fighter.

A good fight that. Bellew got his tactics spot on but got sloppy at the end of the 6th and that shot from Usyk on the bell changed the fight. Going into the 8th I had Bellew 1 up, but Usyk had started to unravel him by then and you tell the finish was coming from about a minute into that round. Pleased the ref and his corner didn’t allow him to see the count out, as I reckon he’d have carried on and taken another barrage.

No disgrace for Tony though and he can retire knowing he’s never ducked anyone and has achieve his goals, both in the ring and financially.

Do you know him Tobes?

Not personally mate, seem him at the match to say hello to, and that’s about it. He’s one of the few sporting personalities that I’d like to though, as he’s a good egg imo.

Yeah seems like a pretty grounded bloke. Fought well last night but Usyk was different class. No shame in that

He did a great interview a few years back, and was asked whether he enjoyed boxing. His answer was “do you think I enjoy being punched in the face?” <laugh>

His goal was to get enough money to buy 10 terraced houses in Liverpool to rent out, that’d give him an income and an inheritance for his kids. He achieved that with the world title fight at Goodison. He’s earned a good few £m since with the 2 fights with Haye and last night. Good luck to him.

Was a good fight and Bellew did better then I thought he would and taught Usyk a few things. Only disgrace were the announcers and the interviewer at the end.

Bellew has "bomber" on his back and one of the announcers helpfully clarified that was his nickname and not because he did the Manchester bombings <doh>

Also the interviewer needs a smack - Bellew was obviously concussed and wanted to go to his wife but kept asking his questions that confused him and made him repeat himself multiple times.

Commentary is awful, unfortunately.

Just been catching up on the Bellew fight.

I hadn't realised just what a top bloke he is. Just wish I'd taken more of an interest in the guy's career and disappointed I'm not going to see him fight again because I believe him when he says he's finished and he's walking away from the ring.

Is a sound guy now - wasn't for the first 3/4 of his career were he was a complete knob but admitted he needed to be as no one was watching boxing so he made people want to pay to see if he got knocked out.

Anthony Joshua gets great credit for that resurgence - mainly for not being a twat so no one else has to be.

Except Tyson Fury who is actually a dickhead to begin with.

Joshua probably the biggest dickhead. Just a PR robot who has been trained in everything he says. Reminds me of one of those "face" wrestlers who say all the **** to get 10 year olds to like them, pure cringe.

Can't blame him though, made him a fortune.

Yeh but that whole period of being a knob was just roleplay, not who he is in real life. The same may well be true about Chisora, who acts the twat most of the time. He may actually help old ladies cross the road when no one's looking!

He had a game plan and the target was financial security for his family which he's achieved. As well as picking up the 4 belts along the way. Kudos to the guy!

AJ comes across well and its hard not to like him. As for Fury, the guy has well-documented mental health issues and I'd be concerned for his welfare if he hit another slippery slope.

Fury might have mental health issues but he tried to give up his British nationality multiple times while crying racism for having to face the consequences of being a homophobe, racist and drug user - will always be a dickhead to me.
